Title of the Research Project : Computational design of 2D materials and their interfaces for a high out-of-plane piezoelectricity Principal Investigator : Prof. Abir De Sarkar, Scientist-G, INST, Mohali (Former Dean) & Adjunct Faculty, IIT Ropar (Department of Physics)
Qualifications : Essential Qualification : M.Sc. Degree in Physics Or M.Tech. degree in Material Science / Nanoscience & Nanotechnology and selected through a process described through any one of the following :
(a) Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests–CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or JEST.
(b) The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc.
Desirable Experience : Experience in scientific computing, Nanoscience and nanotechnology will be preferred.
Age limit : Must not be over 28 years as on 10.09.2026, which is relaxable for certain reserved categories as per rules of Government of India.
Fellowship : Rs. 37,000/- (pm) + HRA (as applicable)
Duration : Six months or till the project end whichever is earlier, with the potential for transition to a Ph.D. position subject to performance, eligibility, and availability of a vacancy.
General Terms and Conditions :
• The position is purely temporary and on contractual basis and renewable subject to satisfactory performance for a maximum till the completion of the project. Candidate selected for this position can also apply for the regular PhD program of INST provided they satisfy eligibility criteria.
• The position is co-terminus with the project.
• No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
• Original documents of age proof/certificates/degrees/mark sheets and other testimonials must be presented along with the self-attested photocopies of these documents at the time of the interview.

Candidates opting for online mode may indicate their preference, at the earliest, and specifically before 10th September 2026. Depending on the number of applicants showing interest in the online mode, the PI may restrict the online interviewees to a reasonable number through certain screening criteria. The decision on your request for an online mode of interview rests solely with the PI.
