Diabetes is classed as a metabolism disorder. Metabolism refers to the way our bodies used digested food for energy and growth. Most of what we eat is broken down in to glucose. Glucose is a form of sugar in the blood it is the principle source of fuel for our bodies.

When our food is digested the glucose makes its way into our blood stream. Our cell uses the glucose for energy and growth.

Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the pancreas after eating; the pancreas automatically releases an adequate quantity of insulin to move the glucose present in our blood in to the cell, and lowers the blood sugar level.

A person with diabetes has condition in which the quantity of glucose in the blood is too elevated (Hyperglycemia) this is because the body either does not produce enough insulin, produce enough insulin, produces no insulin or has cell that do not respond properly to the insulin the pancreas produces. This results in too much glucose building up in the blood.

The excess blood glucose eventually passes out of the body in urine. So even though the blood has plenty of glucose, the cells are not getting it for their essential entry and growth requirements.

Types of diabetes-
Type 1-
If no production of insulin
Type 2
-If don’t produce enough insulin or insulin is not working properly.

Gestational diabetes- If develop diabetes just during pregnancy.

AYURVEDIC FORMULATION FOR CONTROLLING DIABETES

There are great number of evidence suggesting that use carefully chosen herbal remedies and dietary supplements and correct life style can beat the diabetes.

Diabetes has been treated with effective herbal formulation is most common, effective and relatively nontoxic are as follows

Herbal Ingredient with there pharmacological action –

1.    Dried powder of Indian Kino(Peterocarpus Marsupium)

2.    Dried powder of Fenugreek leaf (Trigonella foenum-graecum)

3.    Dried powder of Bitter Gourd (Momordica-charantia)

4.    Dried powder of Jamun (Syzygium cumuni)

1. Dried powder of Indian Kino-

Actually the bark of Indian Kino is use.It is flavonoid to help regeneration of Beta cells in the pancreas as well.

In several studied the effects of this herb on 97 individual with blood sugar problems and were amazed to find that it helps to control blood sugar level in 69% of them.(Reference 17)(Natural Treatment for diabetes-page 43)(Reference18)(Journal of longevity-volume 7/no.12 page 41).

Demonstrates cell protective and regenerative properties as well as blood glucose lowering activity.

These effect have been reproduced in numerous animal and human Trails in these studies, Indian kino was able to reverse the damage to the beta cells and the result was the almost complete restoration of normal insulin secretion.

2. Dried Fenugreek leaf-

It’s common name in India as Methi leaf,Kasoori leaf use as part of leaf and seed. Most of the study state that regular long time use of Fenugreek dried leaf reduces deposition of fat in the body and lowers cholesterol. The high fiber content helps flush out waste in the system. The most important constituent Amino acid(4-Hydroxy isoleucine) helps to stimulate the secretion of insulin.

Fenugreek lowers the blood glucose level by slowing down the absorption process of Carbohydrate there by regulating glucose level in the blood. The dietary fibers in the Fenugreek causes the stomach empty out slowly as result the sugar level in blood stream are controlled.

3.Dried powder of Bitter Gourd-
Bitter gourd is most bitter fruit (Momoridica charantia) in India the common name is Karela in (Hindi) the bitter gourd are very low in calories but dense with precious nutrients. It is an excellent source of vitamin B1,B2,B3,C,Magnesium, Folic acid,Zinc,Phosphorus and has high dietary fiber .It is rich in Iron.

Bitter gourd contain a unique phyto-consituent  that has been confirmed to have a hypoglycemic effect called Charantin.

There is also another insulin-like compound known as Polypeptide which have been suggested as Insulin replacement in some diabetic patients.

4. Dried powder of Jamun (Syzygium cumuni)-

It is known as Indian black berry, common name is Jamun (Hindi). The chemical constituents are Methylxanthoxylin corilagin, Ellagitanins,Ellagic acid and Gallic acid,Jamosine,Volatile oil,Ferulic acid and Coffin acid.

The fruit seed of Syzygium cumini are used as antidiabetec agent by decreasing kidney catalysis activity.

This causes a significant reduction in serum glucose by regeneration of pancreatic islet cells.

It stimulates insulin secretion and eliminates risk of hypoglycemic and cardiovascular complications.
