Eisai Co., Ltd. has announced that it has submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) for Eisai’s antiepileptic drug (AED) Fycompa® (perampanel) seeking approval for an indication expansion to cover pediatric patients with epilepsy.

Indian and foreign pharmaceutical associations need amendment in section 146 of Indian patent act 1970 and form 27 for making Indian patenting system more efficient and it will eliminate vague and unnecessary annual working statement disclosures. Indian patent office has invited responses from stake holders and many pharmaceutical industries and association responded in this regards.

Biogen Inc and its partner Samsung Bioepis announced today an agreement with AbbVie  for the commercialization of IMRALDI, a biosimilar referencing HUMIRA® (adalimumab). Under terms of the agreement, AbbVie will grant patent licenses for the use and sale of IMRALDI in Europe, on a country-by-country basis, and Biogen and Samsung Bioepis will make royalty payments to AbbVie. The companies have agreed to dismiss all pending patent litigation.

Japan continues to be one of the largest pharmaceutical markets in the globe only behind US and China. The country of 12-13 crores population and have greatest potential in pharmaceutical despite difficult demographic landscape. Life expectancy of Japanese population is higher in the world which is almost 80 years for male and 87 years for female. Older people need more medicine and this is the fundamental of pharmaceutical industry in the Japan.

The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) is an Autonomous Body, set up under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare primarily with the objective of periodically updating of the Indian Pharmacopoeia, the book of standards for the drugs; the National Formulary of India, the book of reference on the drugs; and other related tasks such as preparing, certification and distribution of Reference Substances; assist the National Pharmacovigilance Programme; testing of the new drugs and review of Technical dossier of Drugs for purpose of monograph development for the Indian Pharmacopoeia. It promotes rational use of medicines through generic prescriptions. The IPC is on path of evolving as a modern scientific institution.
