The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) has been established as an Autonomous Institution under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India primarily with the objective of regularly updating the Indian Pharmacopoeia (an official book for setting standards of drugs in the Country) by publishing new edition and its addenda, National Formulary of India (reference book for rational use of generic medicines) and carrying out other related tasks such as providing Reference Substances to the stakeholders & conducting skill development programme

Virudhunagar district came into existence by the bifurcation of Ramanathapuram district vide State Government Notification, G.O. Ms. 347 dated 8.3.1985. The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER), SAS Nagar is an autonomous Institute of National importance set up by the Government of India, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers by an Act of Parliament, to impart higher education and undertake advanced research in the field of Pharmaceutical sciences, technology and management.
