The Government of West Bengal set up an expert committee on December 31, 1998, under the Chairmanship of Ashesh Prasad Mitra, Eminent Scientist to explore the necessity and scope for establishment of an Engineering / Technology University in the stste of West Bengal.

Post Graduate Entrance Examination (PGET)2013 for M.Tech/M.Pharm Courses

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) at S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) was created as a centre of excellence in imparting higher education, research and development in pharmaceutical sciences and is the first Institute of its kind in the country. The Institute was declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament, notified on 26th June 1998. During the years 2007 and 2008, Govt. of India established six more NIPERs at the following locations with the help of mentor institutes.

The P.G. programmes of the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi are aimed at training manpower with sound theoretical and experimental background in frontier areas of research in the engineering, applied sciences and interdisciplinary subjects. The emphasis is on understanding the scientific basis and engineering principles involved in solving problems of practical importance in the relevant field using multidisciplinary approach. An important component of these programmes is to inculcate the habit of independent thinking and initiative by the candidates in planning and execution of the research work.

Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, a constituent of CSIR is a leading research Institute in the area of chemical sciences. It was established as Central Laboratories for Scientific and Industrial Research (CLSIR) in the year 1944 by the Nizam State and after independence it was brought under the CSIR as Regional Research Laboratory. It was rechristened as CSIR- IICT in the year 1989 as it acquired a national character. The Institute’s core strength lies in Organic Chemistry and it continues to excel in this field.

Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani a leading Institute of Higher Education and a deemed University under section 3 of the UGC act offers degree programmes in Engineering, Sciences, Technology, Pharmacy, Management and Humanities.
