The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is starting a new programme WISE Fellowship for Ph.D. (WISE-PhD) under Women in Science and Engineering-KIRAN (WISE-KIRAN) Scheme with aim to provide opportunity to carry out Ph.D. in Basic and Applied Sciences. The project proposals are invited under WISE-PhD programme from unemployed women who desire to pursue Ph.D. with this fellowship.

The institute completed its 100 years in 2019, and we wish to take forward the legacy with rejuvenated vigor and sheer dedication with a commitment to nation building. The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi owes its existence to Bharat Ratna Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, the founder of the first residential University of modern India, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), who could foresee the vital role of technical education in strengthening independent India.

The mandate of the Institute is to address the reproductive health issues of national and global relevance. The institute was established with an objective to develop novel and efficacious modalities for fertility regulation through research and thereby assist the government in its mission to stem the population boom. In the past four decades, however, the institute has grown beyond the mandate with which it was entrusted at the time of its genesis.
