Clinical courses

The Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen offers a 2-year post doctoral position in population genetics of potato late blight (Phytophthora infestans). The position starts September 2013 or soon thereafter and is funded through a research grant ("BioMark") from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

A 3-year PhD scholarship is available at the Department of Biomedical Sciences with starting date May 1st or as soon as possible thereafter.

BMI
The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMI) conducts research that seeks to ensure the continued exploration and understanding of organ systems, pathology, pathophysiology and pharmacology. The Department is an important factor in basic research from a clinical perspective aimed at improving diagnostics and patient therapies. Department research is therefore often carried out in cooperation with clinical researchers and departments.
Our group focuses on proteins at the interface of inflammation and coagulation, with a strong emphasis on animal models. In particular, we are studying biological mechanisms leading to an overwhelming systemic inflammation caused by infections.

Job/Study Description
The PhD project is focused on characterizing novel functions of a particular subset of stem cells. Their therapeutic activity will be assessed in vivo, using state-of-the-art technologies, at the cellular and protein levels. The experimental models will include genetically modified mice. Beside, cell culture, lentiviral-mediated gene expression, gene expression knock-down, apoptosis, cytokine secretion, signal transduction and mRNA expression are key methods for the project.

The successful applicant will work in the Biocenter, close to the center of Copenhagen, DK. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a young, dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and excellent core facilities. We have weekly seminars with invited speakers.
