Pharmacy is an independent profession, not paramedical course : PCI

Pharmacy council of India (PCI) notified that the pharmacy is an independent profession, and should not be linked with para-medical courses.

There was periodic debate in the pharmacy profession that it should fall under paramedical courses or not, which was ended by an official notification from PCI.

PCI is clarified that the Pharmacy Profession does not come under the Paramedical course. Further Pharmacy Education should not be linked with Para-Medical Education and neither be clubbed with Para-Medical as Pharmacy Profession itself is an independent profession. The Pharmacy profession as such does not belong to a Para-Medical Group.

Pharmacy is a separate field of study that focuses on the science and practice of medication preparation, dispensing, and patient care related to medications. It is a profession that deals with the safe and effective use of drugs to promote health and manage diseases.

Pharmacy education involves studying subjects such as pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacy practice, pharmaceutics, clinical pharmacy, and more. Pharmacy students learn about drug interactions, dosage forms, drug delivery systems, medication management, and patient counseling.

While both paramedical courses and pharmacy education are healthcare-related fields, they have distinct focuses and career paths. Paramedical courses primarily train individuals for supportive roles in healthcare, whereas pharmacy education prepares individuals to become licensed pharmacists who are directly involved in medication-related care and services.
