A growing number of healthcare institutions and the growing demand for modernization of health care, according to experts, have made it even more important to set up a robust computer system by the Indian health accessible and affordable.

Tools based on software technology such as electronic health records, mental health, telemedicine and web-based diagnostic services are rapidly changing the game in the healthcare sector.

With the surge in healthcare applications, accessibility and availability of information have also become easy, and the situation should only progress.

"With more than 150 companies in India offering products and services, healthcare IT is seeing rapid growth. As Pune is a computer center, it is home to more companies, which has contributed to the change of scenario over the years. Last years, "said public health expert Rajiv Yeravdekar, dean of the Faculty of Health and Biological Sciences at the Symbiosis International University(SIU).

The effective use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) by Symbiosis Center of Health Care (SCHC) for 30,000 students and staff resulted in effective data management and information dissemination without errors and delays during hospitalization.

“Senior people working in government health departments do not even see emails. Most of the reporting mechanisms in public health are based on submitting paper-based records that are kept in files, sending emails that are not read or filling excel sheets that are of no use for long-term activities,” said public health expert and paediatrician Rajeev Joshi, chairman of eCommunication Cell, Indian Medical Association, Pune chapter.

"The use of information technology in health care is sad. The use of geographic information systems to treat diseases is virtually unknown to many, "Joshi said.

Experts from various vertical sectors will participate for the first time at SYMHEALTH 2017, an international conference, which will start in Pune from 4 May. Health informatics, which is an important feature of the seminar, focuses on covering the main areas affecting Indian health care scenario.

The conference will be organized by Symbiosis International University (SIU) and will involve approximately 1,000 to 1,200 health professionals, both from India and abroad.
