(30th September, 2014; Business Wire India); Fortis Healthcare has been awarded the prestigious 2014 ‘Porter Prize, for Value Based Healthcare’. The prize was given in recognition of the company’s outstanding performance in the industry and for redefining the idea of patient care and fundamentally challenging the economic models within the industry.

Mr Aditya Vij, CEO, Fortis Healthcare Ltd., together with the senior leadership team at Fortis, received the award at a glittering ceremony following the National Competitiveness Forum (NCF), held in New Delhi.
The Porter Prize is named after Professor Michael E. Porter of Harvard Business School, a living legend widely regarded as the father of modern business strategy. He is a leading authority on competitive strategy, competitiveness and economic development of nations and has been feted globally for his application of the principles of competition to social problems such as healthcare, environment and corporate responsibility. Professor Porter has been recognised as the world’s most influential thinker on management and competitiveness.

The Porter Prize encourages businesses to compete on the basis of value creation, innovation and strategy. The awards debuted in India in 2012. The recognition is highly valued because of the stringent scrutiny and assessment companies have to go through to win the award. The selected companies underwent a rigorous strategy audit by an eminent jury, before the winners were selected.

Commenting on the win, Mr Aditya Vij, said, “It is a proud moment for us. The last few years have accentuated the attractiveness of India as a destination for investment and this has led us to further emphasise the importance of India in our growth plan. We have also initiated several transformational initiatives to raise our game to the next level. This award is in recognition of the fact that our strategy is taking the right trajectory to expand access to high quality healthcare in the country.”

The National Competitiveness Forum, held prior to the awards ceremony, brought together private sector leaders, renowned thinkers and civil society representatives to discuss solutions to the pressing and emerging issues. Economic Geography and Competitiveness, Technology and Competitiveness, Enabling Industrial Development and Realigning Institutions, were some of the key themes deliberated upon by the eminent panel of national and international speakers. The Fortis CEO was part of a discussion.

The event was organised by the India Council on Competitiveness, a joint initiative of the US Council on Competitiveness and the Institute for Competitiveness, India. The Institute for Competitiveness, India, is dedicated to disseminating research and knowledge on competition and strategy, pioneered over the last 25 years by Professor Porter of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, Harvard Business School (ISC, HBS), USA.
