Post: Dementia Practice Development Coach (Care Homes)

We are pleased to offer the post of Dementia Practice Development Coach (Care Homes) at the Association for Dementia Studies in the University of Worcester on an Alzheimer’s Society funded project aimed at reducing the use of anti-psychotics in care homes

The programme has been specifically designed to enable care home staff to deliver effective person-centred care for people with dementia, by providing a person-centred framework for understanding and caring for people with behavioural symptoms. Evidence has shown that compared with usual care, this training programme can reduce the prescribing of antipsychotics for people with dementia by over 40%. Crucially, it has been shown that a reduction in antipsychotic prescribing can be achieved without any increase in behavioural or psychological symptoms while at the same time resulting in improved wellbeing and social engagement.

There will be the opportunity to develop other areas of activity related to psychology, health and well-being and social care with colleagues drawn from across the Institute of Health and Society.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to prepare and deliver a fifteen minute presentation on the following topic:
"Discuss the approaches you would use within training and supervision to enable staff to adopt a person centred approach to supporting people living with dementia in a care home, which would have the outcome of a reduction in anti-psychotic prescribing.
