ABSTRACT:
A prodrug is a pharmacological substance that is administered in an inactive (or less than fully active) form, and is subsequently converted to an active pharmacological agent (drug) through normal metabolic processes (bioactivation). A prodrug serves as a type of 'precursor' to the intended drug.Prodrugs can be used to improve how the intended drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized and excreted (ADME). Prodrugs are often designed to improve oral bioavailability in cases where the intended drug is poorly absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract. A prodrug may also be used to improve how selectively the intended drug interacts with cells or processes that are not its intended target. This reduces the adverse or unintended effects of the intended drug, especially important in treatments like chemotherapy, which can have severe unintended and undesirable side effects. This review explains about the prodrug.

Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad is a premier R&D Institute in India. The Institute had its origin as the Central Laboratories for Scientific & Industrial Research (CLSIR), established in 1944 by the then Government of Hyderabad State. After integration of Hyderabad State with the Indian Union, the laboratory expanded with its growing activities. The main building was formally opened by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India on January 2, 1954. In 1956, the Central Laboratories came under the aegis of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi and was renamed Regional Research Laboratory, Hyderabad (RRL-H).

ABSTRACT:
Viruses are the ultimate expression of parasitism:they not only take nutrition fom the host cell but also direct its metabolic machinery to synthesize new virus particle. viral chemotherapy, therefore, is difficult, as it would require interference with cellular metabolism in the host. for the treatment of viral infection numerous drugs are developed yet,also so many drugs are undergoing research for this aspect. The presented review article is deals with the various antiviral drugs having different pharmacological effects along with the adverse effect associated with it.
