BIT, Mesra is a "Deemed University" under Sec. 3 of the U.G.C. Act 1956. It functions under the overall supervision, direction and control of a high power Board of Governors, comprising representatives of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the U.G.C., the State Government, The Chancellor, the AICTE, The Hindustan Charity Trust and the Institute Faculty. Shri G.P. Birla is the Chairman of the Board of Governors. The Governor of the state of Jharkhand is the Chancellor of the Institute. The Technical Council decides the academic policy of the Institute.

Applications are invited from interested candidates for admission to full-time / part- time Ph. D. programmes (Session Spring 2013) in the following Departments and Groups: (Please see Department profiles on Institute website for research areas in each Department, and please read all other associated documents including Instructions for filling the application form, fee structure, grouping of candidates etc).

Departments: Architecture, Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Applied Mechanics, Applied Physics, Bio-Medical Instrumentation, Bio-Technology, Centre of Excellence in Climatology, Chemical & Polymer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Environmental Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Management, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Production Engineering, Remote Sensing and Space Engineering & Rocketry.

The last date for receipt of the completed application form for the PhD programme (Session Spring  2013) is 31 January 2013
