Applications are invited from Indian citizens for admission to Ph.D. Programme scheduled to commence from 27th July, 2015 in the following schools of basic sciences at NISER, Bhubaneswar:
School of Biological Sciences
Minimum Educational Qualifications: 60% in Masters in any branches of Biology, life sciences, bioinformatics and pharmacy. Student with masters in any branches of natural or computer sciences with interest in pursuing career in biology.
Those appearing in the qualifying examination in 2015 are also eligible to apply. If selected their admission will be provisional subject to submission of qualifying examination certificate/mark sheet at the time of the admission.
Candidates should have qualified the CSIR-UGCNET/GATE/JEST/JGEEBILS 2015/NBHM/INSPIRE or any other equivalent examination valid for the current year in the relevant subject of research. UGC-CSIR or any other JRF qualified candidates have to avail the fellowship directly from that organization whereas, students selected for Ph.D. program based on GATE/GPAT/JEST/JGEEBILS 2015 or any other score, are eligible for financial aid (Assistantship / Scholarship) from NISER, Bhubaneswar, if selected.
The scholarship given by NISER is ?25,000/- for first 2 years, which will subsequently be enhanced to ?28,000/- for remaining 3 years, subject to the condition that he/she fulfills all the requirements of the Institute that will be stipulated from time to time.
Selection Procedure
- The selection committee of the respective school will short-list the candidates among those who meet the minimum educational qualifications and satisfy additional criteria which each school may set as deemed necessary.
- The short-listed candidates will be called for an interview, supplemented by a written test, if necessary, for the admission.
- Based on the academic record and the performance of the candidates in the selection process, the selection committee of the school will recommend candidates to the Chairman, Academic Council for admission to the Ph.D. program.
- All candidates called for the Test / Interview will be paid to and fro single, second-sleeper class railway fare by the shortest route from their place of residence to the Institute / venue of the Test and Interview. They have to produce evidence (railway ticket) in support of their claim.

Last date for Postal requests for application Forms : 10th April, 2015 (Friday)
Last date to submit the filled-in application form : 16th April, 2015 (Thursday)
Names of the short-listed candidates will be available in the Website on or after 8th May, 2015 (Friday).
The tentative dates for test/interview of four schools are given below.
Biology: 18th – 20th June, 2015 (announced on 30.03.15)
Each school will send the call letters to the candidates separately.

- The Ph.D registration will be done on July 27, 2015 (Monday).
- NISER is scheduled to move to its permanent campus in Jatni around July, 2015.
