The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is a non–governmental, official public standards–setting authority for prescription and over–the–counter medicines and other healthcare products manufactured or sold in the United States. USP also sets widely recognized standards for food ingredients and dietary supplements. USP sets standards for the quality, purity, strength, and consistency of these products–critical to the public health. USP's standards are recognized and used in more than 130 countries around the globe. These standards have helped to ensure public health throughout the world for close to 200 years.

Job Description
Function of the Position:
Plan, implement, and coordinate the policies and procedures surrounding the Environment, Health and Safety of the USP India facility and the personnel.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Environment:

  • Operate and maintain a Zero discharge Effluent treatment plant to be set up at the USP India premises. Environment monitoring Viz. Effluent treatment through CETP, monthly reports submission to PCB, yearly reports submission to PCB, Hazardous waste disposal, Biomedical waste disposal through authorized agencies, generation of Environmental reports. Waste water analysis, effluent analysis, raw water analysis etc.
  • Application for fresh / renewals of CFE / CFO and renewals of Hazardous waste and Biomedical
  • Waste disposal approvals.
  • All the liaisoning works with the state PCB and other EHS related depts.

Safety:

  • Issuance of safety work permits on daily basis, Safety trainings to Lab. Operators, Engineering operators, safety audits, development of protocols for safety operations of systems, Mockdrills.
  • Provide appropriate personal protective equipment and ensure its correct use and maintenance.
  • Ensure that accidents or near misses are quickly and competently investigated with employee involvement, documented, and the necessary steps are promptly taken to prevent a recurrence;
  • Development of procedures for handling and storage of hazardous chemicals in the labs.
  • Co ordination with engineering team for proper preventive maintenance of Fire hydrant and Fire sprinkler systems.
  • Co ordination with engineering team for periodic re validation of Fire alarm safety and public address systems.

Health:
Operation and maintenance of an OHC. Vaccination to the relevant employees, periodic health checkup of employees, Co ordination with the ambulance services etc

Other areas of Contribution:

  • TP Advising the Heads of Departments on Environmental, Health and Safety practices as expected by the Management and other stakeholders.
  • Contributing to organization team efforts in formulating strategies, policies, plans and monitoring the organization’s performance to ensure that safety and environment policy and its objectives are met with.
  • Implementing Environmental, Health and Safety systems and practices which will ensure that the USP India site complies with the relevant legislations and/or other regulatory requirements.
  • Recommend and implement appropriate internal competitions in Environmental, Health and Safety so as to maintain motivation and interest.
  • Implement Environmental, Health and Safety systems and practices.
  • Creating Awareness to Employees on Environmental, Health and Safety Management through trainings, distribution of weekly highlights, posters and pamphlets.
  • Interpretation of ESH Legal requirements, Systems and Standards
  • Ensure that health, welfare, emergency and rehabilitation services are available.

Required Skills
Minimum Requirements:
A recognized Masters in Science or Degree/Diploma in engineering/ technology and a degree or diploma in industrial safety or equivalent of duration not less than one year awarded by any university or Department of Technical Education or Board of Technical education of any State Government.  He/She should possess a post qualification experience of at least 8-10 years in Boitech/Pharma/Chemical industry in Manager / Supervisory capacity with adequate working knowledge of Telugu.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Training and Experience:
Integrated Building Management Systems.
Fire protection training including evacuation procedures.
Chemical spill cleanup training including basic knowledge of chemistry.
Transport of dangerous goods by air.
