Post: Antimicrobial Resistance Consultant (Pharmaceutical Sciences) 

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The Objective of the Pandemic and Epidemic and Pandemic Disease Unit (PED) in the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO) is to prevent and control pandemic and epidemic prone diseases in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) through working with the EMR Member States in the filed of global health security and the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) as a priority. The Antimicrobial Resistance program in EMRO aims to provide sound technical support to the national authorities in implementing the Global Action Plan on AMR through: i) Mapping their AMR systems and response capacities and developing and implementing their inclusive National Action Plans ii) contributing to the global knowledge on AMR by establishing integrated AMR surveillance, iii) sustained capacity strengthening along with knowledge and awareness raising activities, and iv)ensuring availability of and access to strategic guidance for detection, verification, risk assessment, communication and public health response to public health emergencies due to AMR that might constitute national, regional and international public health concern in the EMR countries.

Description of duties:
Under the guidance of the AMR Program Manager, and supervision of Regional Advisor PED/EMRO, the consultant will perform the following functions in the countries of the Region:

-Assess the capacities available in the country for addressing AMR in the field of pharmaceutical sciences using WHO tools and standards.
- Develop scientific reports on analysis of the assessment results at the country level including strategic recommendations.
- Support the national authorities to develop a National Inclusive Action Plan on AMR (NAP) in line with the Global Action Plan on AMR and national context using WHO tools and frameworks.
- Provide technical backup to the AMR activities at the country level in related field.

The required deliverables are:
- Comprehensive report on the results of capacity assessment and gap analysis at the country level including challenges and recommendations for implementation of the NAP.
- Draft NAP with a timeline for the period 2016-2020.

Education: University degree in pharmacy

Skills: Functional skills
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices in pharmaceutical sciences in a multicultural environment.

- Solid knowledge of the Antimicrobial Resistance and risk factors;
- Ability to structure and articulate complex technical issues related to Antimicrobial Resistance;
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting;
- High sense of responsibility and strong organizational skills; Ability to work under pressure with conflicting priorities;
- Strong client focus;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.

Experience:
Essential: At least 5 years of relevant experience at the national and international level.

Languages:
Essential : Excellent knowledge of English language.
Desirable : Good Knowledge of Arabic or French.

Employment conditions:
- This is a consultant position; the contract may be renewed after the initial period based upon performance and funding situation.
-Salaries are based on the normal WHO Consultant rates.
