National AIDS Control Organisation is a division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that provides leadership to HIV/AIDS control programme in India through 35 HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Societies. In 1986, following the detection of the first AIDS case in the country, the National AIDS Committee was constituted in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As the epidemic spread, need was felt for a nationwide programme and an organisation to steer the programme. In 1992 India’s first National AIDS Control Programme (1992-1999) was launched, and National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) was constituted to implement the programme.

Applications are invited for the position of Technical Officer (Surveillance) under National AIDS Control Programme, Department of AIDS Control, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on contractual basis.

Post: Technical Officer (Surveillance)

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To support HIV Surveillance related activities at NACO that include
a. Plan, coordinate, implement and monitor HIV Sentinel Surveillance (HSS) and HIV Estimation activities in the country
b. Coordinate with national and regional institutes involved in HSS and State AIDS Control Societies for implementing HSS
c. Review and process Action Plans of National and Regional Institutes and State AIDS Control Societies related to HSS and support financial planning and budgeting
d. Training and Procurement related to HSS
e. Review and address laboratory related issues of HSS
2. Carry out epidemiological analysis and prepare material and reports on HIV epidemic in India
3. Provide inputs to the programme divisions based on the epidemiological analysis
4. Involve in other surveillance activities such as Behavioural Surveillance Surveys, STI surveillance, Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance, other epidemiological work and research in the field of HIV/AIDS
5. Travel to different parts of the country for reviewing the surveillance activities and for epidemiological investigation
6. Take up any other work assigned by the Officer-in-charge from time to time


Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
1. MD/DNB (Community Medicine)/ MD (Community Health Administration)/ Master in Public Health/ Master in Applied Epidemiology/ Master in Health Administration/ Diploma in Public Health
2. Working knowledge of computers including MS office package and SPSS
Desirable:
1. Experience in HIV/AIDS surveillance and disease surveillance, epidemiology or management of health programmes.
2. Knowledge of epidemiological analysis, modeling and biostatistics

Remuneration: Rs. 47,200/- per month Consolidated.


Duration: Initial contract shall be for One Year. Subsequent re-contracting will be based on performance.
