DTU is a technical university providing internationally leading research, education, innovation and public service. Our staff of 5,800 advance science and technology to create innovative solutions that meet the demands of society; and our 10,300 students are being educated to address the technological challenges of the future. DTU is an independent academic university collaborating globally with business, industry, government, and public agencies.

Post: Postdoctoral

A 2-year postdoctoral position with the possibility for extension is available with the Microbial Biotechnology and Biorefining Group at the National Food Institute, DTU (Lyngby). The position is focused on engineering lactic acid bacteria (LAB) for the production of butanol isomers for application in bio-jetfuel. The Microbial Biotechnology and Biorefining Group has a strong commitment to research and development in the field of new microbial bioconversion processes. Building on our competences within systems and synthetic biology, we develop new robust microbial workhorses to meet the future challenges involved in the conversion of sustainable feedstocks to chemicals and food ingredients.

Job Description:
The project, which is funded by the Innovation Fund, aims to develop novel and sustainable aviation fuels from biologically derived alcohols. The multidisciplinary consortium is a collaboration between Danish universities and industrial partners, as well as several affiliated partners across the world. The candidate will be responsible for engineering LAB strains for the production of butanol isomers, as well as improving yields of the alcohols under production conditions.

The candidate will supervise a PhD student and master students, and also prepare and submit progress timely reports to the management committee. Other tasks will include preparing manuscripts for publication, presenting data at conferences, and travel for annual consortium meetings.
