Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar is one of the eight new IITs set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, to expand the reach and enhance the quality of technical education in the country. This institute is committed to providing state-of-the-art technical education in a variety of fields and also for facilitating transmission of knowledge in keeping with latest developments in pedagogy. These two areas of focus will enable students to gain exposure to recent trends in their chosen domains of study and gain practical experience through a wide variety of activities the institute facilitates in its own campus and arranges for in collaboration with industry and other institutes.

Advertisement Inviting Applications for PhD Programme at IIT Ropar

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) invites applications from Indian citizens for PhD programs in various disciplines during second semester of academic year 2012-2013. Eligibility criteria and areas of research for each department are given below:

Chemistry

Eligibility Criteria: First Class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in Master or equivalent degree in Chemistry/Bio-Chemistry/Materials Science and Technology/ Pharmaceuticals Sciences.

Candidates meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for current year:
a) Valid GATE Score.
b) UGC/CSIR-NET qualification.

Area of Research: Catalysis, Chemical Kinetics, Electronic Structure Calculations, Inorganic Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Organometallics, Organic Polymer Synthesis, Reaction Dynamics.

General Information
·       All selected candidates who are Indian citizens and who do not receive any other scholarship or funding will be provided financial support by the Institute. Admission to reserved-category candidates will be as per Government of India notification.
·       A limited number of Research Assistantships and other financial support for attending conferences within India and abroad are available as per MHRD norms subject to the conditions prescribed in the Institute regulations.
·       At present IIT Ropar do not offer part time PhD.
·       Mere fulfillment of the above mentioned qualifications does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.

Institute will not be responsible for any kind of postal delay. Applicant should explicitly mention their expression of intent to be considered for the research scholar position as mentioned above.

Note: Applicants seeking admission in PhD programme other than SMMEE department, apply through application form A, whereas applicants seeking admission in PhD programme in SMMEE, apply through application form B provided on the institute website.
