The National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, a premier Institute of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India is engaged in five broad areas of research namely (i) Agroprocessing & Natural Products, (ii) Biotechnology, (iii) Chemical Sciences & Technology, (iv) Materials & Minerals and(v) Process Engineering & Environmental Technology. NIIST offers excellent infrastructure support, start-up research funding along with a vibrant environment to perform research in a unique interdisciplinary environment, wherein scientists enjoy a mix of individual freedom and collective scientific support to undertake research of international quality. The institute plans to induct 21 scientists with proven capabilities in the respective areas as indicated by high quality publications, patents etc. at various levels, and is on the lookout for young researchers with fresh ideas, innovative viewpoints and willingness to work hard The appointed candidates are expected to be capable of conducting independent research and play lead role in the relevant CSIR programmes in terms of infrastructure creation and knowledge generation.

First class M. Sc. in Chemistry from a recognized institute/ university, followed by Ph. D in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry) with 4 years of postdoctoral experience.

Experience in drug synthesis/Total synthesis and structure activity studies / medicinal chemistry/ Synthetic organic chemistry as well as experience in 2-D NMR techniques

Candidate would be required to set up facilities required for successful implementation of the "Affordable Healthcare" programme of CSIR and take a lead role in developing medicinal and pharmaceutical industry related programmes.

Candidate would be required to work in the area of Natural Products/herbs with an objective to identify chemical markers, characterization and isolation of bio-molecules and structural elucidation of the isolated compounds

Experience in pharmacological sciences/medicinal chemistry and thorough knowledge for studies in biological evaluation with expertise in modern biological techniques.

Candidates would be required to be part of the pharmacological screening group to carry out R&D activities in cell culture, screening of new chemical entities using cell lines for different diseases & determining molecular mecha nism of action.

First class M. Sc. in Chemistry from a recognized institute/ university, followed by Ph. D in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry) with 1 year postdoctoral experience.

Experience in drug synthesis/total synthesis and structure activity studies/ medicinal chemistry/ Synthetic organic chemistry.

The candidate would be required to work for the

"Affordable Healthcare"

programme of CSIR. The candidate is also expected to take a lead role in the upkeep of existing facilities such as 500 and 300 MHz NMR, high-resolution mass, CHN analyzer etc.

Experience in synthesis of functional molecules and materials, characterization using techniques such as AFM/STM, confocal microscopy and molecular self-assembly approach to smart materials, photofunctional materials etc.

Candidate would be required to set up all facilities required for successful implementation of the "Smart and Functional Materials" programme of CSIR.

First   class    M.   Sc.    in Microbiology    from    any recognized institute/university, followed    by    PhD    in Microbiology with 1 year postdoctoral experience.

Post-doctoral research experience in the area of microbial taxonomy/ evolutionary microbiology and should have worked on the isolation and handling of bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, etc; studies on microbial biodiversity.

Candidate would be required to build up the N11ST Culture Collection independently, including isolation, identification, characterization and maintenance of strains; should be capable of leading independent research in the areas of microbial diversity, PGPR, bioactives, etc

First class M. Sc. in Molecular Biology/ Genetics/Genomics/ Biomedical genetics from any recognized institute/ university followed by PhD in Molecular Biology/ Genetics/ Biotechnology with 1 year postdoctoral experience.

Post-doctoral research experience in the area of fungal/bacterial molecular biology/genetics. Candidate should possess sound knowledge on use/handling of molecular tools/techniques such as PCR, hybridization, site-directed mutagenesis, metagenomics, molecular evolution, etc.
