Applications are invited for the Research Associateship at the Institute of Life Sciences

Clinical courses

An Associate Institute of the University of Hyderabad, the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) is a not-for-profit institute that aims to conduct innovative research in unifying areas of chemistry, biology and chemical biology. Our goal is to create and foster a research culture where chemists and biologists work together to generate original ideas, and generate experimental data which can lead to novel therapies for human disease and an improvement in quality of life. Training future generations of scientists working at the interface.

Applications are invited for the Research Associateship (RA) position to work on CSIR funded research project on the “Synthesis of Boronic Acid Containing Fluorescent Saccharide Sensors”

Post: Research Associate

[adsense:336x280:8701650588]

Number of RA Positions in Organic Chemistry: 2

Project Outline: Objectives of the project are to synthesize and characterize saccharide fluorescent chemosensors which are able to sense sugars within the range of physiological carbohydrate concentration. Saccharide sensors will contain nitrogen heterocyclic conjugated moiety as a fluorescence reporter and boronic acid group which can bind to diols through reversible boronate formation, leading to fluorescence changes. Synthesis and characterization of selective monomeric, dimeric and oligomeric chemosensors will be followed by spectral examinations in aqueous solution in presence of Saccharides.

Duration: The duration of the fellowship is for one year fixed term.

Responsibilities: The selected candidate will carry out the research project outlined above in discussions with the PI and is expected to contribute their best efforts to the success of the project. RAs responsibilities include gaining new research skills, communicating with the adviser and concluding a research project in a timely manner.

Qualification: PhD in Organic Chemistry or equivalent degree OR having at least 4 year of excellent research experience in organic synthesis after MSc (Organic Chemistry).

Application: Interested candidates can send their full CV via e-mail to hr@ilsresearch.org

Please mention project title as ”Fluorescent Saccharide Sensors-RA” in your email subject line.

Submission deadline: December, 25, 2011.
