MSD Wellcome Trust Hilleman Laboratories (the Hilleman Labs), is a joint venture between Merck & Co., Inc. (which operates in India as MSD Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd.) and the Wellcome Trust (which is a UK based research charity). The joint venture marks a first of its kind research entity which is created by a partnership between a research charity and a pharmaceutical company. The Wellcome Trust’s strong track record in biomedical research and global health combined with Merck’s expertise in the development and delivery of vaccines positions the Hilleman Laboratories to make a real and sustained difference. This unique partnership integrates the best of both to drive the investments and expertise needed to develop and deliver vaccines.
The Hilleman Laboratories are based in NCR, India. The Hilleman Labs is registered as SCS Pharma. The Hilleman laboratories over the next 2 years plans to have a staff of approximately 40 scientists fully engaged in R&D of vaccines.

Job Description:
Head of Business Development is a key role within Hilleman Labs and is part of the senior management structure within the company reporting to the CEO. This is a unique job opportunity to shape, drive and execute the overall BD strategy of a global healthcare company with a specific focus on infectious disease products. An entrepreneurial start-up environment as well as the international nature of the company’s shareholders provides a rewarding experience for professional development and career growth. We are seeking a dynamic leader with a proven track record in Business Development to join us and help grow our company to the next level of sustainability.

• Develop a strategic BD plan with clear near and long term objectives enabling business sustainability
• Drive alliances, collaborations, licensing agreements and possible joint ventures where appropriate to achieve short and long term company goals
• Successfully scout, negotiate and execute deals and transactions
• Develop a strong understanding of the vaccine-related healthcare space in the developing world.
• Monitor global vaccine-technologies and market trends.
• Make presentations to key company stakeholders and obtain buy-in
• Work closely with the management team to achieve overall company goals and objectives

Candidate Profile:
MBA or equivalent from an accredited institution along with a Basic degree in science
• Minimum of 10 years of experience leading the business development function in a major Pharmaceutical or Biotech company. International work experience is desirable.
• Solid knowledge of deal structures including legal aspects, intellectual property issues and creative utilization of financial instruments
• Direct, hands-on experience with contract negotiation, licensing and deal closure
• Ability to inspire confidence at all levels i.e. scientific leadership, operations, as well as external partners
• An entrepreneurial mind-set
• "Culturally fluent" to work across geographies and business styles.
