The Human Resource Development Group (HRDG) of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has been inviting applications for the Emeritus Scientist (ES) Scheme. This scheme aims to provide financial assistance to outstanding superannuated scientists, enabling them to continue research in their fields of specialization, particularly in areas of relevance to CSIR’s programmes and activities.
Eligible applicants include eminent scientists from across India who are recognized experts in their fields and have been actively engaged in scientific research during the five years preceding their superannuation. The research Proposals will be independently reviewed, and selection will be made purely on merit, in accordance with the CSIR EMR-II Emeritus Scientist Scheme Guidelines: CSIR-HRDG: Emeritus Scientist
About the Emeritus Scientist Scheme
• Financial assistance for superannuated, outstanding scientists to continue research relevant to CSIR's programmes and activities.
• Provides financial assistance to superannuated outstanding scientists to pursue research in their fields of specialization - especially where the work is relevant to the programmes and activities of CSIR.
• Open to a scientist who is an acknowledged expert in their field and has been actively engaged in scientific research during the five years preceding superannuation.
• Selection is based on the quality of the scientist's publications - including the five years prior to retirement - and the honours and awards received.
• A specially constituted CSIR Standing Committee considers research proposals under the scheme and recommends grants, generally meeting twice a year.
• The grant covers a Scientist Allowance of Rs. 20,000/- p.m. for the tenure, an annual contingent grant, and technical assistance through research fellows/associates.

Interested applicants may submit online research proposal through the CSIR-HRDG Emeritus Scientist Scheme Portal and follow the procedure prescribed therein. The portal shall remain open throughout the year for online submission of research proposals. The Cut-off date for consideration of applications for the first cycle of FY 2027 is 30th September 2026.
After successful online submission, the applicant must send the Original Declaration Certificate duly signed and stamped by the Head of the Institution, mentioning the Proposal- ID generated upon submission by post to the following address on or before 10th October 2026.
