About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on scientist who can independently establish, develop, troubleshoot, and execute analytical and bioanalytical assays supporting drug discovery and preclinical programs.
This role requires at least five years of relevant, hands-on industry experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or contract research organization. Candidates must have personally developed and run assays as a core part of their professional responsibilities, with recent, substantial laboratory experience. This is an independent bench-scientist role.
The successful candidate must bring the technical expertise to lead assay development from day one, without routine technical supervision or dedicated scientific mentorship. Cross-functional collaboration will be central to the role, but candidates must independently make experimental decisions, resolve technical problems, and deliver reliable results.
You will work closely with medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and DMPK colleagues and collaborate with global scientific partners, including partners in the U.S. biotech ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
• Own bioanalytical assay development from start to finish: translate project needs into experimental plans; select methods, controls, and acceptance criteria; optimize sample preparation and instrument conditions; assess assay performance; and document results.
• Independently develop and execute LC–MS/MS methods for quantifying compounds and metabolites in plasma, tissue, and other biological matrices to support discovery PK and preclinical studies.
• Develop and troubleshoot cell-based in vitro permeability assays, including appropriate controls and analytical quantification.
• Develop HPLC and preparative HPLC methods for compound purity assessment, purification, and isolation, including chiral separations where required.
• Diagnose and resolve problems involving extraction recovery, matrix effects, selectivity, sensitivity, carryover, reproducibility, analyte stability, and chromatographic performance.
• Qualify or validate methods to a level appropriate for their intended use and study requirements.
• Interpret data critically, identify limitations, and recommend clear next steps for project teams.
• Communicate progress, technical challenges, results, and recommendations clearly in written reports and scientific discussions.
• Maintain complete experimental records, method documentation, and instrument maintenance and calibration records
Qualifications Experience
• A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Biology, or a closely related discipline.
• At least five years of relevant hands-on industry experience. Academic research, doctoral training, and postdoctoral work do not substitute for this requirement.
• Demonstrated independent development of bioanalytical assays, from initial design through optimization, troubleshooting, and routine use.
• Strong practical expertise in LC–MS/MS, HPLC, biological sample preparation, and quantitative data analysis.
• Hands-on experience with sample extraction and cleanup using protein precipitation, solid-phase extraction, and/or liquid–liquid extraction.
• Experience developing and running cell-based permeability assays and interpreting the resulting data.
• A strong understanding of chromatography, column selection, mass spectrometry, and assay performance assessment.
• Experience supporting drug discovery, lead optimization, or preclinical programs.
• Clear written and verbal communication: able to explain experimental rationale, communicate uncertainty, and turn analytical findings into actionable recommendations.
• Strong experimental judgment, time management, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
Experience limited to running established methods, coordinating outsourced studies, reviewing data, or supervising laboratory staff will not meet the requirements of this role. Applicants must demonstrate substantial personal bench work and independent method development
Additional Experience Valued: -
• Preparative HPLC and chiral purification.
• Peptide bioanalysis.
• Stability assessment, impurity profiling, and degradation studies.
• Biochemical assay platforms such as HTRF, TR-FRET, or AlphaLISA.
• Enzyme kinetics, compound–target interactions, and interpretation of structure– activity relationships.
