The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), established in 1983, is an international, intergovernmental organisation conceived as a Centre of excellence for research, training and technology transfer to industry in the field of biotechnology to promote sustainable global development. The Centre conducts innovative research in life  sciences and strengthens the research capability of its over 60 Member States through training, funding programs and advisory services.

Open Post-Doctoral fellowship on external funds available in Dr. Braga’s Functional Cell Biology Laboratory at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste, Italy.

Seeking for highly motivated post-doctoral researchers interested in working in a stimulating research environment, and leading ambitious projects aiming to discover new druggable targets in respiratory diseases, with a specific focus on restoring endogenous epithelial Type II cells homeostasis in different type of respiratory diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung adeno carcinoma (LUAD). The research is funded by Fondazione CRTrieste within the context of the project titled REPAir: REProgramming the lung to repAir.

Functional Cell Biology group (icgeb.org/functional-cell-biology/) operates in an international and multidisciplinary working environment encompassing biologists, biotechnologists and medical doctors with state-of-the-art research facilities in the field of Drug discovery (icgeb.org/high-throughput-screening-equipment/). 


The candidate will be offered a 12-month position starting 1st October 2025, with a salary of 28- 37.000 euro per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. An extension for an additional 24 months will be subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance. She/he must hold :
• a succesfull PhD degree in molecular Biomedicine, genetics, biology, pharmacology or in a related field of the life sciences; 
• extensive hands-on experience in invitro cell-based functional assays; 
• proven ability to independently design and conduct cell-based assay development for HTS applications; 
• proven ability to independently operate and apply software tools for automated image analysis in HTS applications; 
• extensive hands-on experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques; 
• proficiency in English, communication skills, team-work attitude and a strong motivation

Additional assets :
• prior experience conducting research in the field of lung biology;
• proven experience in infectious disease research, with substantial hands-on expertise in
conducting experiments within a BSL-3 environment;
• prior experience in laboratory automation (liquid handling and automated processes).
