Pharma and Life Sciences Fellowship at BRIC-NABI an autonomous Institute under DBT Government of India

BRIC-National Agri-Food and Biomanufacturing Institute (BRIC-NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. BRIC-NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri- food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, BRIC-NABI is involved in research activities for Bio-fortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. 

The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at BRIC-NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis.

Research Associate (One position)
Project Title : “Exosomes from plants: isolation and characterization and their effects on adipogenesis” (NABI Core)
Principal Investigator : Dr. Vikas Rishi, Scientist G
Duration : The RA fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 1 year only. In exceptional cases, depending upon research progress and performance, the committee may recommend the upgradation of RA levels.
Essential Qualifications :
• Candidates should have been awarded a Ph.D. degree or have submitted their Ph.D. thesis.
• Scholars selected through National Eligibility Tests (CSIR-UGC-NET), including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), GATE, and GPAT.
• Selection through national-level examinations conducted by central government departments, their agencies, and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.
Desirable Experience :
• Experience in advanced molecular biology and biochemical methods and techniques.
• Experience in animal cell culture protocols is desirable.
• Ability to analyse transcriptome and small RNA sequencing data from extracellular vesicles.
• Relevant research publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Emoluments : ₹58,000 per month plus HRA, as per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023.
Age Limit : 40 years. Relaxation is admissible for SC/ST/OBC/PD and women candidates as per Government of India instructions.

Senior Research Fellow (One position)
Project Title : “Investigating the role of bZIP transcription factors in tomato seed development and maturation” (NABI Core)
Principal Investigator : Dr. Vikas Rishi, Scientist G
Duration : One year.
Essential Qualifications :
A postgraduate degree in basic science, or a graduate/postgraduate degree in a professional course, selected through a process described under any one of the following:
• Scholars selected through National Eligibility Tests (CSIR-UGC-NET), including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), GATE, and GPAT.
• Selection through national-level examinations conducted by central government departments, their agencies, and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.
• Two years of research experience as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF).
Desirable Experience :
• Experience in advanced molecular biology and biochemical methods and techniques.
• Experience in plant tissue culture, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, and tissue micropropagation protocols is desirable.
Emoluments : ₹42,000 per month plus HRA, if hostel accommodation is unavailable in NABI, as per GOI OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26/06/2023.
Age Limit : 32 years. Relaxation is admissible for SC/ST/OBC/PD candidates as per Government of India instructions.
Responsibilities :
• Identify seed-specific bZIP transcription factors in tomato.
• Generate knockout lines of the selected seed-specific bZIP transcription factors through plant tissue culture.

Research Associate-I (One position)
Project Title : “Genetic dissection of rancidity and goitrogenic C-glycosyl flavone biosynthesis genes to enhance the shelf-life and nutritional quality of pearl millet flour” (GAP-94)
Principal Investigator : Dr. Rupam Kumar Bhunia, Scientist-E, BRIC-NABI
Duration : The RA fellowship is a purely temporary assignment for one year only. Depending on research progress and performance, the committee may recommend a further extension of tenure.
Essential Qualification :
- Ph.D. in any branch of Life Sciences or Biotechnology, with at least two peer-reviewed international publications in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journals.
Desirable Experience :
- Hands-on experience in genome editing and plant tissue culture, including Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, regeneration, and handling of transgenic plants.
Responsibilities :
1. Identification of candidate genes.
2. Transformation of CRISPR constructs.
3. Screening of edited lines and lipid analysis using GC.

Research Associate-I (RA-I), one position
Project Title : “Genetic dissection of disease resistance against necrotrophic pathogens in Brassica carinata and its prospects for transfer into Brassica juncea (Indian mustard)” (GAP-114)
Principal Investigator : Dr. Sivasubramanian R, Scientist-D, BRIC-NABI
Duration : One year. Depending on research progress and performance, the committee may recommend a further extension of tenure.
Essential Qualification :
• Ph.D. in any branch of Life Sciences or Biotechnology.
• At least two peer-reviewed international publications in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journals.
Desirable Experience :
1. Interest in genetics and genomics of crop species.
2. Research experience in handling genomics data, GWAS and QTL analysis of crops, and NGS data analysis, including genome sequencing and assembly and comparative genomics. Relevant research publications in peer-reviewed journals or preprint servers should support this experience.
3. Research experience in plant-pathogen interactions or plant pathology.
Responsibilities :
• Work on the genetics, genomics, and phenotyping aspects of the project.
• Conduct sequencing and phenotyping of Brassica carinata germplasm alongside other project personnel.
• Perform bioinformatics analyses, including variant calling, GWAS, and other population genomic analyses.
• Analyse data arising from phenotyping experiments.
• Help prepare reports for funding agencies and write manuscripts for publication.

Field/Lab Assistant (one position)
Project Title : “Genetic dissection of disease resistance against necrotrophic pathogens in Brassica carinata and its prospects for transfer into Brassica juncea (Indian mustard)” (GAP-114)
Principal Investigator : Dr. Sivasubramanian R, Scientist-D, BRIC-NABI
Duration : Initially one year, with the possibility of continuation until project completion, subject to the availability of funds from the sponsoring agency. Further extension will depend on performance evaluation and project requirements.
Essential Qualifications : Either of the following:
1. Bachelor's degree from a recognized university/institute in Life Sciences, Agricultural Science, Biotechnology, or an allied subject; or
2. Diploma in Engineering and Technology in Agricultural Science, Biotechnology, or an allied subject.
Emoluments : ₹20,000 per month plus HRA, as per DST OM No. SR/S9/Z08/2018 dated 30.01.2019.
Age Limit : 50 years.

Senior Research Fellow (one position)
Project Title : “Investigating the genetic basis of variation in yield and grain nutrient profile in rice under elevated day and night temperature” (GAP-78)
Principal Investigator : Dr. Rajeev Nayan Bahuguna, Scientist-D, BRIC-NABI
Duration : One year.
Essential Qualification :
A master's degree in Biotechnology, Agricultural Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Sciences, Life Sciences, or another relevant discipline from a recognized university/institution, with at least two years of relevant research experience after obtaining the master's degree in a research project or laboratory involving molecular biology, genomics, transcriptomics, or related areas.
Responsibilities :
• Conduct and assist with project-related research activities.
• Focus on molecular biology and omics data analysis in rice.
Desirable Experience :
Candidates with hands-on experience in molecular biology and omics data analysis, particularly transcriptomics and metabolomics, will be preferred.
Emoluments : ₹42,000 per month plus HRA, as per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023.
Age Limit : 32 years. A five-year age relaxation is admissible for SC/ST/OBC/PD and women candidates as per Government of India instructions.

Application Procedure & Other Conditions
1. Mode of Interview
Candidates are strictly requested to check the note under every advertised position to confirm the mode of the interview (Walk-in, Online, or Hybrid) and then apply accordingly. For positions mentioned as offline or walk-in, interested candidates are required to appear for walk-in interviews only.
2. Application Form
Interested candidates must apply using the prescribed application form attached with the advertisement copy in both Hindi and English, which is also available on the NABI website (https://nabi.res.in/site/career). Please note that CVs sent via email or phone will not be accepted or treated as valid applications.
3. Sequence of Documents
The documents must be arranged and attached strictly in the following sequence:
1. Application Form
2. Academic supporting documents (in ascending to descending order, from 10th standard to the academic qualification required in the advertisement)
3. Experience letter
4. Caste certificate (if any)
5. Self-attested copies of Aadhaar and PAN card at the last.
4. Required Documents & Validity
Candidates must not attach expired documents while applying for any position, as such documents will be considered null and void. Candidates appearing for an offline interview must also bring original mark sheets, degree certificates, experience certificates, and publications for verification.
5. Application for Multiple Positions
Candidates applying for more than one position can give their preference by writing different designations in the same application form; there is no need to fill another application form.
6. Date & Registration for Offline/Hybrid Candidates
For candidates attending offline (Walk-in or Hybrid mode), the duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI (Knowledge City, Sector-81, Mohali, Punjab-140306) from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 28.10.2026.
7. Online Applications & PDF Submission
For positions conducted in Online mode, the last date to submit the online application is 23.10.2026 (05:00 PM). No applications will be entertained thereafter. Candidates are requested to send a combined PDF of their application and documents (in the prescribed sequence mentioned above) along with the request for conducting an online interview with proper justification in the email to the concerned PI's email address mentioned under every position in the advertisement.
8. PDF Naming Convention
To make it convenient for the PI to verify the applications and documents at the earliest, the PDF file name must strictly follow this format: Candidate Name - Position - Date of interview.
9. Eligibility & Accuracy
Candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying and ensure all provided information is accurate; no requests for changes will be considered once submitted. Ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.
10. TA/DA
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
11. Results
