IIEST, Shibpur owes its origin to the erstwhile Bengal Engineering College, the history of which goes to the nineteenth century when industries in the sense we understand today, were practically absent. Prompted by the idea of meeting the requirement of trained engineering personnel for the Public Works Department, the then Council of Education, Bengal, decided to open Civil Engineering classes and a Professorship in Civil Engineering was created at Hindu College, Calcutta, in the year 1843–44. A college of engineering was started by the name of Civil Engineering College on 24th November, 1856, in the premises of the Writers Building, Calcutta.

Essential Qualification : Masters degree in Pharmacy / Pharmaceutical Sciences / Medicine / Chemistry / Biochemistry / Physics / Biotechnology / Biomedical engineering / Natural sciences / Physiology / Food Technology OR any allied fields in Life Sciences from a recognized University OR Equivalent with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades etc.).

Desirable Qualification :
1. GATE/NET qualification.
2. Experience of working in the related field.
3. Having experience in handling FTIR, Raman, DLS and other spectroscopic data.
4. Having exposure to various Molecular Biology techniques.

Fellowship : 1st & 2nd Year: Rs. 37,000/- p.m. + Rs 11,100/- (30% HRA) = Rs 48,100/- per month; 3rd Year: Rs. 42,000/- p.m. + Rs 12,600/- (30% HRA) = Rs 54,600/- per month

Age Limit : Maximum 28 years, (Upper age limit is Exceeded by up to 5 years for SC/ST/OBC/Woman/PWD/EWS as per Govt, of
India and ANRF rules).
Duration : Initially for 06 months. It may be extended after evaluation on annual basis up to 36 months OR till the completion of the project, whichever happens earlier.
