NIAB invites applications for admission to its PhD program

NIAB invites applications for admission to its PhD program in Biotechnology (affiliated with the Regional Centre for Biotechnology, RCB, Faridabad) from highly motivated students for the 2025-2026 Academic Session (RSP-II). NIAB is an autonomous institution of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, under the aegis of the newly formed Biotechnology Research Innovation Council (BRIC), leading in basic and translational research on animal health and productivity, including at the human-animal interface with a motto to improve animal health for human welfare.

Eligibility Criteria : Individuals desirous of seeking admission to PhD program at NIAB must have a Master’s degree (M. Sc., M. Tech., M. V. Sc. or M.Pharm.) or MBBS or B.Tech. (four-year) degree in any branch of Life Sciences. Candidates must mandatorily have secured CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/INSPIRE NET JRF/UGC- RGNF or any other national research fellowship for 05 years. Those with only GATE, MPAT or other certification exams (without a 5-year fellowship) are not eligible. The terms and conditions, fellowship amount, etc. will be governed by the awarding agency and further subject to the rules and conventions of the Institute.

Application Procedure : Interested candidates who meet the above criteria may apply online in the prescribed form, through the link available at our online portal (niab.org.in/Notifications_RSP_2_2025.aspx). Soft copies of certificates in support of date of birth, educational qualifications, reservation category (if applicable), and fellowship examination qualified must also be uploaded. Please contact academic@niab.org.in for any queries. The application portal will open on 21 st October 2025 and will be closed on 30th November 2025.

Selection Criteria : Admission to PhD Program will be based on an interview of shortlisted candidates via video conference, scheduled to be held between 16th and 17th December 2025 (tentative; dates are subject to change). The candidates should be available for more than one round of interviews, spread over two days if needed. Before the interview, the applicants are encouraged to view the profile and the research interests of the faculties on the NIAB website. Students will be given the choice to give a preference list of labs (as listed on the NIAB website), in which they would like to pursue their PhD research in; the merit list from the interviews will be used to allot students to these labs based on the availability. NIAB reserves the right to accept / reject any or all applications without assigning any reasons whatsoever.
