Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG) is India’s first Public Health University. The Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG) is working towards building a healthier India. IIPHG is an example of visionary leadership of Honourable Shri Narendra Modi (then Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat), who laid the foundation stone and provided support for establishing the institute in 2008. Government of Gujarat and Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) entered an MoU in 2007 to establish IIPHG. Under the MoU, Government of Gujarat allocated land and agreed to share a part of the project cost.

Post : Technical Officer – Data Scientist

Duration of Position : Initial appointment will be for two months, extendable further subject to project extension.

Brief on the Organization : Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG) is a University established under IIPHG Act, 2015 of Gujarat State. It offers courses in the field of Public Health. It also undertakes various research projects in the field of Public Health. The university is established by Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) with support from the Government of Gujarat, Department of Health & Family Welfare.

Project Brief
IIPHG is implementing a project titled " Closing the Gaps in TB Care Cascade" to develop and demonstrate a monitoring framework to address TB care cascade gaps in Gujarat and Jharkhand. This project aims to strengthen district health systems in their ability to routinely and comprehensively monitor and respond to the TB care cascade. The project will develop a framework to monitor the TB care cascade and demonstrate intervention models to close cascade gaps in select geographies. Care cascades for TB sub-populations will also be created including for individuals with latent TB infection, DR-TB, co-morbidities, and other key populations. The initiative is supported through USAID and IIPHG will be a consortium partner led by World Health Partners.

Deliverables : The Technical Officer - Data Scientist, will be responsible for conducting a detailed analysis of the data from various sources to address the research questions and supporting the development and evaluation of predictive and analytical models. Data scientist will formulate and execute an approach to derive results utilizing mathematical analytics and modeling.

Specific responsibilities :
• To work in close coordination with the national coordinator in project management activities, including planning the interventions, technical assistance for primary data collection activity, documentation of project activity data, and preparation of research reports.
• To work mainly in areas like machine learning, information extraction, retrieval, knowledge systems, Natural Language Generation (NLG) and conversational AI
• To carry out advanced statistical analysis using statistical software.
• To design, implements and support data modeling.
• Undertake an evaluation of project activities from an economic perspective.
• Any other activities as assigned by the supervisor


Qualification / Work Experience :
Essential:
• Master’s degree in statistics or data science or any relevant field with 3-5 years of work experience
• Solid understanding of Statistics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence Technologies.
• Prior programming experience is a must.
• You have strong fundamentals in maths, logic, machine learning and deep learning
• You are passionate about AI platform development
• Proficiency in statistical and other tools/languages - R, S-plus, SAS, STATA, Python, Java, Scala, , Julia & SQL
• Experience in various statistical and machine learning models, data mining, unstructured data analytics in corporate or academic research environments
• Proven background in at least one of the following - Reliability models, Markov Models, Stochastic models, Bayesian Modeling, Classification Models, Cluster Analysis, Neural Network
• Exposure to ML & DL frameworks Tensorflow, Pytorch, Keras, Caffe and OpenAI
• Passionate about ML, NLP, and Information Extraction.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Be self-driven and ability to deal with ambiguity in terms of incomplete data
• Strong knowledge of ML techniques like classification, regression, clustering, forecasting, anomaly detection, association rule mining, etc.Extensive knowledge of statistical and mathematical modeling techniques
• Familiarity with Data visualization frameworks like Dash, Streamlit etc is desirable.
• Certificate course(s) for ML/Data Science like Big Data and Decision Science will be an added advantage.
• Providing previous ML/Data Science projects details on GitHub or anyother platform will be an added advantages.
• Should be a strong team player & able to work on ambiguous environment with minimal guidance

Annual Salary (CTC) will commensurate with the available skills and fitment of the incumbent as per the selection process. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the interview.
