Job Description :
An NIH-funded postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Nixon lab in the Division of Pharmacology & Toxicology, in the College of Pharmacy. Novel neuroscience, pharmacological and behavioral approaches are used to examine the role of adult neural stem cells/neurogenesis in rodent models of alcohol use disorders. We seek an exceptional individual with initiative, motivation, and strong laboratory skills to join our energetic team as we rebuild after relocating to UT Austin.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Work independently and contribute to the research team by immersing themselves intellectually, developing research questions and approaches, conducting research with exceptional rigor, and disseminating results through presentations and publications on the role of adult neurogenesis in recovery from alcohol dependence. Collaboratively plan, develop, carry out and troubleshoot scientific experiments on the neurobiology of alcohol use and abuse in animal models of alcohol use disorders or alcoholism. Assist Principal Investigator with driving the research goals of the laboratory.  Disseminate novel discoveries through presenting data at meetings and scientific conferences as well as preparing and writing manuscripts for publication. Provide administrative support to the lab. Supervise and/or mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile
Ph.D. earned within the last 3 years in a Biology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience or related field. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: animal models of neurological or psychiatric disease, especially alcohol or substance use disorders; immunohistochemistry, microscopy, viral vectors, PCR, Western Blots, ELISA, or rodent behavior assays.  Stereotaxic microinjection or experience with transgenics is a plus.  Strong track record of productivity evidenced by high quality publications and presentations

Salary Range
$50,003+ depending on qualifications and experience
