The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a growing phenomenon.
Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, RGCB began in 1990 amongst humble surroundings as a small charitable society called the Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991, recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a “Grant-in-Aid” institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (RGC-DEST), becoming the first institute in the country to be named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi, the young illustrious and visionary former Prime Minster of India.

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Project Fellow in a KSCSTE funded metagenomics project entitled "Geospatial scale metagenomics profiling of mass-transit systems in Kerala" in the Laboratory of Dr. Shijulal Nelson Sathi at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, KINFRA Campus, Kazhakkuttom,Thiruvananthapuram. Major focus of the project is to reconstruct the microbial community present in the urban surroundings and understand its impact on spreading infectious disease.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :
Candidates must have a Master's level Degree in Microbiology, Medical Microbiology or Biotechnology. The candidate must have minimum one year experience in basic molecular techniques.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for a motivated student with keen interest in metagenomics and its applications. Candidates who have hands on research experience on microbial culture techniques, DNA/RNA extraction, NGS library preparation etc. will be given preference. Furthermore, good knowledge in bioinformatics and statistics is desirable.
AGE :
Below 28 years as on 5th December, 2017. Age relaxation will be given as per Govt. of India norms.

EMOLUMENT:
22,000/- (consolidated) per month.
DURATION :
one year
Only those fulfilling the above criteria need apply and will be called for interview. In the event of more than 10 candidates being short-listed by screening the applications, a written test will be conducted before the selection interview and only those who are successful in the written test will be interviewed. No TA/ DA will be given for appearing in the interview.
Suitably qualified candidates may send applications with a photograph, a copy of full resume indicating the percentage of Marks obtained and attested photocopies of credentials & experience to reach the undersigned on or before 5th December, 2017.
Envelopes must be superscripted with abbreviated title of the project, advertisement number and job title. Selection to the position will not entitle the candidate to any future positions at RGCB (permanent or otherwise). As with all project positions at RGCB, the position will be co terminus with end of the project.
