The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it.

Desirable Criteria : Essential Qualifications:-- First-class academic record (minimum 60% or CGPA of 6.5) from Class X onward B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) with valid GATE score For applicants having qualification upto M.E./M.Tech level in EE, GATE score is not mandatory Desirable Skills (Preference will be given to candidates with experience in):-- Design & simulation of power electronic circuits PCB design & hardware validation Microcontroller / FPGA programming

Proposed Fellowship : Upto RS. 37,000 /-(depending upon qualification & experience)

Age Limit : 28 (Age rules may be relaxed upon fulfilling sponsor agency rules, if any)
Tenure : 24 Months or the termination of the project, whichever is earlier.
