BRIC-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) Kalyani is an Institute of Government of India, Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Biotechnology. The Institute has created the necessary physical infrastructure and critical platform technologies to support research, translation and trainingin biomedical genomics.

Applications are invited for the position of Project Linked Person for extramural project to be executed by the BRIC-National institute of Biomedical Genomics, Kalyani. Selected applicants will be appointed initially for one year. The tenure of appointment may be extended depending on performance and availability of funds.

Project Name : Development of a chip to predict steroid responsiveness in children with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome: A global whole transcriptomics (IncRNA-miRNA-mRNA network) based approach.

Research Description : Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is a prevalent kidney disease in children, with an incidence of 2-7 per 100,000 in a year. Most children respond well to steroid treatments, however there are frequent relapses, making it essential to predict responses to corticosteroids for better prognoses. At present, analysis of common diagnostic markers such as serum albumin and proteinuria is insufficient due to the disease's complexity and varying patient responses. While past studies primarily focus on miRNAs in Chinese populations, this project aims to develop a chip that utilizes transcriptomic signatures to predict steroid responsiveness in children with NS. The plan is to conduct a global RNA sequencing to identify key lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA expression signatures linked to disease progression and treatment response, ultimately fostering personalized therapy and improving disease management.

Essential Education Qualification : Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following: a. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests - CSIR- UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE. b. National level examinations conducted by Govt. of India Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, ISER, NISER etc.

Desirable Qualification : Experience in DNA/RNA, genomics, next generation sequencing, analysis of sequence data, knowledge of R and Linux scripting, next generation sequencing data analysis, knowledge in functional enrichment analysis- GO, KEGG pathway etc., and basic wet lab techniques such as cell culture, qPCR, western blot analysis, etc.

Nature of work & Responsibilities : DNA/RNA extraction, next generation sequencing and data analysis, lab and project documentation, and any other work as required by PI

Consolidated and fixed monthly emolument (₹) : 37,000+24% HRA

This position is contractual, and appointments will be initially for one year, which is extendable depending upon performance and requirements of the project.
