The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it.

Project Title : Investigation on the Fundamental Mechanisms behind the Solar Energy Conversion and Storage through Computational Materials Modelling Using Bulk and 2 Dimensional Solids(FMB_1023)

Qualifications and Relevant Experience : Four years Bachelors Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / Masters Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / BVSc/BPharm or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine or from a recognized University or equivalent and Two years experience in R&D in Industrial and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organizations and Scientific activities and services.

Desirable Criteria : 1. Experience with proof of publication(s) in the first-principles calculations on bulk and quasi-2D solids.
2. Either Ph.D. thesis (in relevant domain Condensed Matter Physics or and Materials Science) submitted or Ph.D. degree obtained in the last 1 year from the closing date of this advertisement.

Proposed Fellowship : i) 42,000/- + HRA to Scholars who are selected through (a) CSIR-UGC NET or GATE or (b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions ii) 33,000/- + HRA for others who do not fall under above
Application Fees : NIL

Age Limit : 40 (Age rules may be relaxed upon fulfilling sponsor agency rules, if any)
Tenure : 11 Months or the termination of the project, whichever is earlier.
