Admission under Institutional-JRF Programme of IASST

Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati is an autonomous R&D Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The Institute is engaged in frontier areas of research in the specific domain of Physical, Chemical, Mathematical and Biological Sciences. The Institute’s aim is to contribute to basic sciences and develop technology using local resources through strong interdisciplinary research approach across different divisions. Institute is equipped with modern and sophisticated instrumentation including TEM, SEM, XRD, LCMS-MS, AFM, DNA Sequencer and computational facility for cutting edge scientific research. Ph.D program of IASST is affiliated to Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR).

The Institute invites applications under the following research areas for admission as Institutional - JRF of IASST, Guwahati for the August 2026 Session.

For Life Sciences Division
1. Human gut microbiome & probiotics : MSc in Microbiology/ Biochemistry / Biotechnology/ Zoology
2. Plant Microbe Interactions, microbial bioactive metabolites against multi- drug resistant pathogens. : Masters in Botany (specialization in microbiology)/Microbiology/Biotechnology
3. Applied Microbiology and Biomedicine : MSc/M.Tech in Biotechnology/ Zoology / Biochemistry / Any Life Sciences Branch; MS/M.Pharm (Any Branches)
4. Pharmacology and Drug Discovery : MSc/M.Tech in Biotechnology / Zoology/ Biochemistry / Any Life Sciences Branch; MS/M.Pharm (Any Branches)
5. Infectious diseases, and Drug discovery against antimicrobial resistance : MSc in Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ any branch of Life Sciences or M.Tech in Biotechnology

For Physical Sciences Division

5. Hydrodynamics, Applied Mathematics : Masters in Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics/ Maths and Computing/ any allied areas of Mathematics
6. Applied Plasma Physics and Biophysics : Masters in Physics/Chemistry/M.Tech in ICE/Electrical Engineering
7 Plasma Physics : MSc/M.Tech in Physics/Chemistry/ Electrical Engineering

Eligibility : Candidates shall be eligible to apply for admission and registration within the ongoing program of research at IASST, if He/she has obtained 55% marks in aggregate (Equivalent CGPA on 10 point scale) in the master’s degree examination. A candidate belonging to SC/ST who has obtained 50% marks in aggregate in master degree examination shall also be eligible to apply. तथा/ AND (ii) Qualified valid national PhD research fellowship (CSIR-NET- JRF/UGC-NET- JRF/DBT-JRF/ICMR –JRF) Or Qualified CSIR/UGC-NET Category–2 (appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD) / CSIR/UGC-NET Category–3 (admission to PhD only) / JEST / GATE with validity of test score.
Age Limit (as on last date of application) : Upper age limit is 28 years. Age relaxation as per the GOI Norms

Application Procedure : Interested candidate should apply through online only (https://iasst.gov.in) within fifteen days of publication of the advertisement. Incomplete applications and those received after the closing date will not be entertained
No TA/DA will be provided to the candidate for appearing in the selection interview.

Selection Procedure : The applicants who do not satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria will not be considered for shortlisting/selection process. Those candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned above will be called for interview. Selection will be based on the performance in the Interview and availability of vacant seat. The expected date of Interview will be displayed in website/communicated to the shortlisted candidates. List of applicants shortlisted to appear in the Interview will be uploaded in the IASST website. Specific instructions regarding the interview will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates only. The decisions of the admission committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Results of final selection will be available in IASST website and all correspondence must be done through the email to registrar@iasst.gov.in.

Selected candidates, after joining, will be eligible to apply for Ph.D admission in AcSIR.

Fellowship/Financial support for Institutional - JRF : Selected candidates will be required to join the institutional fellowship program of IASST from 1st August 2026. The selected candidates shall be eligible for a monthly fellowship as per the recent circular of DST, Govt. of India on fellowship for Ph.D. The fellowship amount is Rs. 37000 + HRA (as applicable) for JRF.
Subject to availability of seat, selected candidates will be provided accommodation in the Dorothy Hodgkin Student and Scientists Home as per the Institute’s rule. Candidates are requested to visit the Institute’s website for updated details time to time

IASST’s Right : If suitable candidates are not found in any discipline, IASST reserves the right not to fill up its JRF position for this academic year.
