The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati is an autonomous R&D Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The Institute is engaged in frontier areas of research in the specific domain of Physical, Chemical, Mathematical and Life Sciences. The Institute’s aim is to contribute to basic sciences and develop technology using local resources through strong interdisciplinary research approach across different divisions. Institute is equipped with modern and sophisticated instrumentation including TEM, SEM, XRD, LCMS-MS, AFM, DNA Sequencer and computational facility for cutting edge scientific research.

Associate Professor-II (1 OBC-NCL)
Pay : Level -13 (Rs. 118500 - Rs. 214100)
Upper Age limit : 50 years
Essential Qualification : Master's degree in Information Technology/Mathematics/ Statistics/Bioinformatics/ any areas of Life-Sciences with first class or equivalent (in terms of Grades or marks) at the preceding degree and excellent academic record throughout. And Ph.D. Degree in Data Science/ Statistics/ Mathematics/ Computer Science/Information Technology/Bioinformatics or in any thrust research areas in Physical/Life Sciences at IASST. Essential Experience: Ten-year post-Ph.D. of which at least five years at the level of Assistant Professor-II/Scientist-C level (7th CPC Pay level 11) or higher with excellent research record as evidenced by patents and/or publications in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, the candidate must have at least one student awarded Ph.D. under his/her principal guide-ship.
Desirable :
• At least 10 refereed journal papers as first/corresponding author, out of which at least 2 should have been published in the last 2 years.
• Completed at least one sponsored R&D or consulting project as a PI or two sponsored R&D or consulting projects as a co- PI.
• Teaching basic and advanced courses, research experience in industrial and/or professional experience in a reputed organization.
• Experience in guiding the project work/dissertation of PG /Research Students or supervising R&D projects in industry.
• Published work in reputed journals/Conferences, patents filed/obtained, copyrights, books and their impact and relevance to Data Science.
• Post-Ph.D. experience of working in the fields of (but not limited to): Probabilistic models, data mining, Deep learning, Reinforcement learning, applied AI such as NLP, computer vision, robotics, AI on the edge, etc., computational and systems biology, Explainable AI (XAI), databases and data analytics, Big Data Analytics, Applications of AI to domain areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, etc., Statistics & Statistical Learning, Data Privacy & Security, Autonomous intelligent systems, scientific computing, knowledge representation and reasoning, Healthcare Data Science.

Ph.D. in Physics / Chemistry / Nano Science / Material Sciences (with research topic in Quantum Materials/Computational Condensed Matter Physics/Material Sciences/Natural product Chemistry).
Essential Experience : A minimum of 6 years post-PhD teaching / research / professional experience in any other Indian/ Foreign Institutions/ Universities of comparable standard with excellent research record as evidenced by patents and/or publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Desirable :
• At least 06 refereed journal papers as first author, out of which at least 01 should have been published in the last 2 years.
• Post-Ph.D. experience working in Computational Condensed Matter Physics / Material Sciences, including Quantum Materials/devices/Natural Product Chemistry.
• Evidence of leadership and proven record of having sponsored research projects, guiding PhD students, teamwork, and participation in professional society's activities.

General Information
1. The last date for the online application is 30 days from the date of the advertisement.
2. The age as prescribed shall be the 'closing date for receiving application'. Age relaxation for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/other categories as per Government of India rules/orders on the subject.
3. The postdoctoral experience will be counted from the date of awarding PhD degree certificate (provisional).
4. Letters of Recommendations: Applications for all the above posts must be supported by three letters of recommendation, one preferably from the Ph.D. supervisor, to be submitted confidentially to the Director of the Institute (dir.iasst@nic.in).
5. A summary note (maximum 1000 words) on the research work published by the candidate in the relevant fields after completing the Ph.D. The candidate should highlight the significant works done, output, and achievements from these works for the said period in terms of completed projects, papers published, IPR/Patents obtained, technology generated/commercialized, the contribution made towards infrastructure development, programme/project framing, and fund mobilization, participation in research and teaching activities and linkages, etc.
6. A research programme and work plan on the area (maximum 2000 words) the candidate would like to pursue being in the position. The information may include new, innovative and original research projects/ideas/thrust areas of work he/she proposes to introduce/conduct, facilities proposed to be developed, linkages and collaboration proposed with other research units and departments of IASST, as well as the expected outcome from these approaches. While formulating the plan, the Institute's past and present achievements, development, and outcome may be reviewed, and critical gaps may be identified. The Institute's website (iasst.gov.in), annual reports, etc., may be consulted for developing the plan.
7. Candidates are urged to provide details of their academic accomplishments (certificates, testimonials, awards/honours/research achievements, citation index of publications). Candidates are advised not to enclose copies of papers that have been submitted but have not been accepted or published.
8. Foreign nationals who are "Persons of Indian Origin" (PIO) or overseas citizens of India (OCI), in whose case, if selected, permission will be sought from the government of India before they can join the Institute.
9. The Institute encourages faculty interaction with industry, other research, and professional institutions. Consultancy is encouraged at IASST, and liberal consultancy policies are in practice.
10. Facilities for research and development activities exist in all the Departments. These are being continuously modernized with modern equipment and services. Good facilities also exist for computing. The Institute has a well-stocked library.

11. A technology business incubators hosted by the Institute, called the BioNest-IASST and ISVEC, promote technology-based entrepreneurship by faculty.
12. Persons employed in Government/Semi-Government organizations or Educational Institutions must apply through proper channels and provide a No Objection Certificate while applying, without which application will not be considered.
