Pharmacists Openings under Subordinate Services Selection Commission

Initially, the State Government of Uttar Pradesh established a Subordinate Services Selection Board through an Ordinance in 1988 which was later on replaced by an act No.7 of 1988, for direct recruitment to all such group ‘C’ posts as may be specified by the State Government by notification in this behalf.  The Board was also allowed to consider the request of any authority, Government Company or Corporation, owned or controlled by the Government for such recruitment to posts thereunder. The Board had a corporate entity separate from the Government.

Online applications are invited from citizens of India for selection to a total of 560 vacant posts of Pharmacist under the control of Directorate of Medical and Health Services, Uttar Pradesh under Advertisement No. 01-Examination/2026, Pharmacist Main Examination (Preliminary Eligibility Test-2025)/02 of Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission, Lucknow.

Qualification -  Essential Qualification (Educational) - According to Part 4, Rule 8 of the Uttar Pradesh Pharmaceutical Service Rules, 1980, a candidate for direct recruitment to the service must possess a diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution and must also be registered with the State Pharmacy Council, Uttar Pradesh.  
Preferential Qualification - According to Part 4, Rule 9 of the Uttar Pradesh Pharmaceutical Service Rules, 1980, other things being equal, preference will be given for direct recruitment to a candidate who: (i) has served in the Territorial Army for a minimum period of two years, or (ii) has obtained a 'B' certificate of the National Cadet Corps.

Age -  A candidate for direct recruitment must have attained the age of 18 years on January 1st of the year in which the recruitment is to be made, if the posts are advertised between January 1st and June 30th, and must not have attained the age of more than 40 years on July 1st, if the posts are advertised between July 1st and December 31st.  Provided that in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and such other categories as may be notified by the Government from time to time, the upper age limit shall be such number of years as may be specified.   

Basis of Selection
The selection process for the posts in question is based on the Uttar Pradesh Direct Recruitment (Rules and Procedures) Rules, 2015 for Group 'C' Posts promulgated by the Uttar Pradesh Government Personnel Section-3 vide Notification No. 32/2015/857/47-Ka-3-2015-13/19/2015, dated 11-05-2015, the Uttar Pradesh Direct Recruitment to Lower Level Posts (Discontinuation of Interviews) Rules, 2017 promulgated by the Uttar Pradesh Government Personnel Section-2 vide Notification No. 4/2017/1/1/2017-Ka-2, dated 31 August 2017, and the new application process and two-tier system adopted by the Uttar Pradesh Government Personnel Section-3 vide Government Order No. 1103/47-Ka-3-2020-13/17/2020, dated 20-11-2020.  The selection process will be conducted in accordance with the examination system (under which only candidates who have appeared in the Commission's preliminary qualifying examination may apply for the main examination), the Uttar Pradesh Pharmaceutical Service Rules, 1980, and the Director General of Medical and Health Services, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow's letter No. 4(D)2/2021/Pharma/Act/167/2025/463, dated April 23, 2025, and Letter No. 4D(2)/2021/167/592, dated June 12, 2025, according to which the basis for selection is a written examination.

Application Fee - Candidates will be charged only the online processing fee for online applications at the application stage, the category-wise details of which are listed below.

Candidates belonging to the Freedom Fighter's Dependent, Ex-Servicemen, Women, Persons with Disabilities, and Outstanding Sportsperson categories will pay the fee as per their original category mentioned. 

The examination fee for the Main Examination will be paid separately only by candidates shortlisted for the Main Examination.  Candidates shortlisted for the Main Examination will have to pay the prescribed examination fee for the Main Examination before downloading the Main Examination Admit Card.

Important Instructions for Candidates
1) All reserved category candidates of Uttar Pradesh must indicate their category in the application. 
2) Candidates claiming more than one reserved category will be eligible for only one relaxation, whichever is more beneficial.  
3) Candidates who are not natives of the state of Uttar Pradesh are not eligible for the benefit of reservation. Such candidates will be considered as belonging to the unreserved category.   
4) Reservation for retired/ex-servicemen (who have retired by the last date of application, i.e., 29-03-2026) will be permissible as per the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Public Services (Reservation for Physically Handicapped, Dependents of Freedom Fighters, and Ex-Servicemen) Act, 1993 (as amended) and the latest relevant rules/government orders.  
5) Outstanding sportspersons of Uttar Pradesh will be required to submit a certificate issued by the competent authority on the prescribed format to avail the benefit of reservation under the Uttar Pradesh Government Departments (Direct Recruitment of Outstanding Sportspersons to Group C Posts) Rules, 2022 and the latest relevant government orders.  
6) In the case of female candidates, only the caste certificate issued by the father's side will be valid.  
7) Candidates claiming to be dependents of freedom fighters from Uttar Pradesh should ensure that they possess a certificate in accordance with the Government Order dated April 21, 2015, issued in accordance with the Uttar Pradesh Public Services (Reservation for Physically Handicapped, Dependents of Freedom Fighters, and Ex-Servicemen) Act, 1993, as amended. 
8) Candidates claiming to be physically disabled should ensure that they possess a disability certificate issued by the competent authority in the updated format prescribed by Government Order No. 5/2022/18/1/2008/47/Ka-2/2022, dated 18-04-2022 of the Uttar Pradesh Government Personnel Department-2, and that the certificate clearly states the type and percentage of the candidate's disability.
9) Candidates serving in the Central or State Government must obtain a No Objection Certificate from their employer for participating in the selection process for the posts in question, which will have to be submitted by the Commission in the prescribed manner when asked for.
10) Employees working in State services will be given a relaxation of five years in the maximum age limit as per Government Order No. 2-EM/2001-Ka-4-2013, dated 27th August, 2013 of the Personnel Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh.


11) In order to provide relaxation in the age limit and preference for the researchers of the Chief Minister's Fellowship, the Uttar Pradesh Government Personnel Section-2 Notification No. 01/2026/06/47-Ka-2-2026 dated: 30 January, 2026, Lucknow has issued "Uttar Pradesh Public Services (Relaxation of Age Limit and Preference for Researchers of the Chief Minister's Fellowship for Competitive Examination) Rules, 2026". Accordingly, the researchers of the Chief Minister's Fellowship will be provided relaxation in the age limit and preference as per the provisions mentioned in the said rules.
12) The decision of the Commission regarding the eligibility/ineligibility of the candidate will be final.
13) Candidates selected under the Dependents of Freedom Fighters, Disabled and Ex-Servicemen quota of Uttar Pradesh will be placed in the categories to which they belong as per the existing rules of the Uttar Pradesh Public Services (Reservation for Physically Handicapped, Dependents of Freedom Fighters and Ex-Servicemen) Act, 1993 (as amended).
14) Reservation for women in the process of direct recruitment to public services and posts under the State will be permissible as per the provisions laid down in Government Order No. 18/1/99/Ka-2/99, dated 26-02-1999, (as amended) Government Order No. 39 Writ/Ka-2/2019, dated 26 June 2019 of Personnel Section-2. The above reservation granted to women will be subject to the final decision of the Hon'ble Court in Special Appeal (D) No. 475/2019 filed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh against the order of the Hon'ble High Court dated 16-01-2019. Female candidates from Uttar Pradesh will be placed in the vertical category in the same category to which they belong; for this, only the caste certificate issued from the father's side will be valid.
15) Candidates claiming reservation under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), whose family income from all sources (salary, agriculture, trade and business etc.) is less than Rs. 08 lakh in the financial year preceding the year of application and who fulfil the conditions prescribed in the Uttar Pradesh Public Service (Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections) Act, 2020 promulgated by the Uttar Pradesh Government Legislative Section-1 Notification No. 1577-79-V-1-20-1(A)4-20, dated August 31, 2020, regarding grant of 10% reservation to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), will be eligible for 10% reservation (EWS).  Candidates applying under the EWS category are required to possess an EWS certificate issued between 01-04-2025 and 29-03-2026 (the last date for application), based on income for the 2024-25 fiscal year and valid for the 2025-26 fiscal year, before applying. Applicants in this category must submit the certificate in the format prescribed by the Uttar Pradesh Government Personnel Sectio -2 Office Memorandum No. 3/2019/4/1/2002/Ka-2/19TC-11, dated 14-03-2019. 
16) Only the date of birth mentioned in the certificate of passing the high school or equivalent examination will be valid. No other document other than this certificate will be accepted for date of birth.
17) Self-attested copies of mark sheets, certificates, and degrees must be submitted upon request to confirm age and educational qualifications.
18) Information regarding the date, time, and examination center will be provided through the admit card along with the roll number. Candidates must appear for the examination at the allotted examination center. Changes to the examination center, date, and time will not be permitted under any circumstances. Candidates should not engage in unnecessary correspondence in this regard.
19) Failure to mention the date of birth in the application form, being an adult or a minor, not possessing the required educational qualifications, or providing incorrect/false information will result in the candidature being rejected.
20) Any candidate providing false information in their application form that cannot be substantiated by certificates may be debarred from the Commission's examination in question and all other examinations and selections.

21) The Commission will grant provisional admission to the written examination to candidates based on the information provided by them. However, if it is later discovered at any stage that the candidate provided false information and did not possess the eligibility criteria or the relevant certificates as of the last date of application, or that their application was not acceptable at the initial stage, their candidature will be cancelled.
22) The Commission does not enter into personal correspondence with any candidate. All information is uploaded on the Commission's website. Therefore, all candidates/aspirants are expected to regularly visit the Commission's website for all information related to the advertisement.
23) The Commission does not provide any advice to candidates regarding their eligibility. Therefore, candidates should carefully study the advertisement and apply only after satisfying themselves that they meet the conditions of the advertisement.
24) If a candidate faces any difficulty in applying online, they can get their difficulty/problem resolved through the Commission's website https://upsssc.gov.in or by contacting the Commission's office on any working day. 
25) Male candidates who are married and have more than one living wife, or female candidates who are married to a man who already has a living wife, will not be considered eligible, unless the Governor has granted a waiver of this restriction.
26) In the event of a candidate submitting more than one application, only the last submitted application will be accepted. All other applications will be considered invalid. Candidates may amend the permissible details in their application only until the last date for application amendments. After this date, amendments to the application form are not possible at any level, and correspondence with the Commission in this regard will not be valid.
27) In the event of any inaccuracy, error, or contradiction, the provisions contained in the relevant Service Rules, Reservation Act, and applicable Government Orders will prevail.
28) A candidate's candidature will be cancelled if he/she indulges in any malpractice, i.e., cheating, indiscipline, misconduct, or other undesirable conduct in the examination hall. Disobeying these instructions may result in debarment from this examination and other future examinations/selections. The Commission's decision in this regard will be final. The provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, dated August 6, 2024, will apply to the examination in question. The Commission reserves the right to cancel a candidature and debar (DEBAR) a candidate from the Commission's examinations and selections if he/she is found to have engaged in any misconduct/misconduct, concealment of material information, pending prosecution/criminal case, conviction, having more than one living spouse, misrepresentation of facts, and making recommendations regarding candidature/selection.
29) A candidate selected under horizontal reservation will be adjusted against the category to which he belongs.
