Scientific Positions Open for Pharma, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Science Candidates at NABI

BRIC-National Agri-Food and Biomanufacturing Institute (BRIC-NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. BRIC-NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri- food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, BRIC-NABI is involved in research activities for Bio-fortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. 

The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at BRIC-NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis.

Research Associate (RA-I) (One position) 
Project Title : “Biomass leachate production for agricultural development” (GAP-110) 
Principle Investigator : Dr. Sasikumar Elumalai (Scientist F), BRIC-NABI 
Duration : One Year, extendable up to six months subject to satisfactory progress & fund availability from the funding agency. Essential Qualification : PhD in Chemical Sciences (Chemistry/ Physical/ Chemistry/ Electrochemistry) / Chemical Engineering / Biochemistry / Biotechnology/ Agricultural Biotechnology from a recognized University / Institute and having at least one first-author research publication in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal. 
Emoluments: - Rs. 58,000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023) 
Age limit : 35 years (Relaxation is admissible in the case of SC/ST/OBC/PD and women candidates as per GOI instructions)

NOTE : Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis in the relevant area are also encouraged to apply. However, they will be paid SRF salary until the successful defence of the thesis.

Research Associate-3 (RA-3) (One position)
Project Title : “Functional evaluation and silencing of selected fructan content related wheat genes, and estimation of fructan prebiotic/bloating potential” (GAP-109) 
Principle Investigator : Dr. Monika Garg (Scientist F), BRIC-NABI 
Duration : One Year, extendable on annual basis for subsequent years subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs, and financial provisions. 
Essential Qualification : • Ph.D. in Molecular biology, Biotechnology, Genomics, Plant Breeding, Genetics, or Life Sciences with computational experience. OR
 • M.Tech/M.Sc. in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology/Computer Science/Statistics with three years of relevant research experience and at least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal. 
• Reserved for highly experienced candidates who possess several years of productive postdoctoral research, advanced technical proficiency, or a strong track record of independent project handling beyond the basic Ph.D. requirement Desired Experience: Prior research or training experience in the field of wheat, Grain quality, molecular biology, breeding, genetics and bioinformatics. Responsibilities: Selected candidate will work in close association with the PI on the project to understand the Expression Profiling and Candidate Gene Selection, Protein Interaction Studies (Y2H + Co-IP), transient Expression Studies, Gene Silencing of Fructan Biosynthesis Pathway in wheat to lower grain fructan content, In-vitro Evaluation of Wheat Fructan Extract on Flatulence and Gut Microflora in Healthy Individuals and Colitis Patients via Anaerobic Fermentation, Cell Culture Studies using Caco-2 cell lines to assess the impact of fermentation products on gut integrity, inflammation, Tight Junction etc. 
Emoluments: - As per DBT norms Rs. 67,000/- plus HRA per month (as applicable for Research Associate III) (As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023)

Junior Research Fellow / Project Associate I (Two Positions) 
Project Title : “Lignin valorization via biomaterial development, depolymerization and green technology” (GAP-27 CIAB) 
Principle Investigator : Dr. Jayeeta Bhaumik (Scientist-E), BRIC-NABI 
Duration : One Year, extendable on annual basis for subsequent years’ subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs, and financial provisions. 
Essential Qualification : Master's degree from a recognized University/Institute : M.Sc. Chemistry (Organic/Physical/ Materials/ Medicinal/Pharmaceutical)/ Biotechnology/ Nanotechnology/ Microbiology /Food Technology or related field or M. Pharm / M.S. Pharm (Biotechnology/Medicinal/Pharmaceutical/Process Chemistry) or M.E. / M. Tech. (Biotechnology/Nanotechnology) and NET / GATE / any other relevant/equivalent nature of national level test qualified (for JRF). 
Work area : Lignin valorization via biomaterial development. 
Desired Experience : Agro waste / Biomass valorization, Process development of biomaterial. 
Emoluments: - Rs. 37,000/- per month (for JRF) with National Eligibility Tests - CSIR-UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or Rs. 30,000/- per month (for PA I) without national exams qualified Plus (HRA as admissible or Hostel facility, if available) for both options.

Project Associate 1 (PA-1) (One position) 
Project Title : “Engineering methanol-free Pichia pastoris system for sustainable protein production” (GAP-97) Principle Investigator : Dr. Sandeep Kumar (Scientist C), BRIC-NABI 
Duration : The Project Associate I is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years or the last date of the project, whichever is earlier. 
Essential Qualification : Master's in Biotechnology/Microbiology/Life Science/Molecular Biology. The candidate should have qualified for any one of the national-level examinations (CSIR-UGC-NET or GATE). Additionally, candidates will be eligible for an interview if they have qualified for National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions. 
Desirable Experience : Experience in molecular techniques, yeast PCR, gene editing, CRISPR Cas, microbial fermentation, and protein purification. 
Job profile : The Project Associate I will work on strain engineering of Pichia pastoris, with a primary focus on developing methanol-free induction systems. 
Emoluments : - The Project Associate I will be hired with the emoluments of Rs. 37,000/- +HRA. 
Age limit : The age limit of applicants for Project Associate I will be 35 years as on the date of the interview. (Relaxation is admissible in case of SC/ST/OBC/women as per the government of India instructions.

Project Assistant (PA) (Two positions) 
Project Title : “BIRAC sponsored Banana Bio fortification project entitled “Development and Transfer of Technology from Queensland University of Technology, Australia to India for Bio fortification and Disease Resistance in Banana” (GAP-02) 
Principle Investigator : Dr. Siddharth Tiwari, Scientist F, BRIC-NABI 
Funding Agency : Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) 
Duration : Till December 2026* (Based on the terms and conditions of the funding agency). 
Essential Qualification: - B.Sc. or equivalent degree/diploma with minimum 55%. 
Desirable Experience: 1. Knowledge/experience/understanding in plant tissue culture, molecular biology, bioinformatics and maintenance of transgenic plant materials under in-vitro and containment conditions. 
2. Basic knowledge/experience in bioinformatics analysis of data and knowledge of computer such as MS Office, Excel, Power-point, Internet etc. 
3. Knowledge/experience in performing various farm-related operations and field experiments. 
Job Responsibility : 
1. To assist scientists and research scholars in experiments 
2. Maintenance of records of experiments, instruments and consumables 3. Any other scientific responsibilities assign by in-charge scientist 
Emoluments: - Expected Rs. 27,000/- per month plus HRA. It can be revised (up or down) in accordance with the funding agency's terms and conditions.

Field/Lab worker (F/LW) (One position)

Essential Qualification: - B.Sc. or equivalent degree/diploma with minimum 55%. 
Desirable Experience : 1. Experience in Lab and Field work. 
2. Able to read and understand the instructions in Hindi and English languages. 
3. Qualified 10th class from any board examinations in India. 
Emoluments: - As per the sanctioned amount in the project grant. The expected minimum salary is approximately 26500/- per month (Fixed`). It can be revised (up or down) in accordance with the funding agency's terms and conditions. Salary will be released upon receipt of funds from the funding agency.

Research Associate 1 (RA-1) (One position) 
Project Title : “Molecular, biochemical characterization of nutritionally enriched genetically engineered plants and their bioinformatics-based analysis” (NABI-Core) 
Principle Investigator : Dr. Siddharth Tiwari, Scientist F, BRIC-NABI 
Duration : One Year, extendable on annual basis for subsequent years’ subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs, and financial provisions. 
Essential Qualification: - PhD/MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree having three years of research, teaching and design and development experience after MVSc/M Pharma/ ME/M Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal. * FOR RA-I Candidates who have submitted Ph.D. thesis and are waiting for viva voce may also apply (For such candidates, fellowship amount will be that of an SRF until he/she submit completion of PhD certificate. 
Desirable Experience : 1. Experience in Plant genetic engineering, Genome editing, Molecular, Biochemical and Bioinformatics analyses of genetically engineered plants. 
2. Practical knowledge of gene cloning, expression & purification of recombinant plant proteins and their bioinformatics analysis. 
3. Relevant research publications in peer-reviewed journals. 
Emoluments: - Rs. 58,000/- plus HRA per month (applicable for Research Associate I) and Rs. 42,000/- plus HRA per month (applicable for SRF) As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023.

Application Procedure & Other Conditions 
1. All interested candidates may appear for Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge city, Sector-81, Mohali, Punjab- 140306, on 25.06.2026 at 09:00 A.M. along with the duly filled application form available on the website nabi.res.in. 
2. Interested candidates must apply using the prescribed application form attached to the advertisement on the official website. Please note that CVs or expressions of interest sent via email or phone will not be accepted or treated as valid applications. 
3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website. 
4. Candidates applying for more than one post can give their preference by writing different designations in the same application form. 
5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/ information in the application form will be considered. 
6. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 25.06.2026. 7.  The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed. 
8. All the candidates are requested to appear for a Walk-In interview with an application form, experience certificates, publications, and original degree certificates and transcripts. 
9. Original mark sheets, certificates, award/fellowship, etc must be accomplished for verification at the time of the interview and attach one set of attested copies of the documents with the application form. 
10. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview. 
11. Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate(s). 
12. Candidates should strictly adhere to guidelines issued by World Health Organization and Centre Govt/State Govt on Covid-19. 13. In the event of special circumstances, candidates may request the project investigator (via email) to conduct their interviews online. Such requests must be submitted well in advance, preferably at least one week prior to the scheduled interview date. However, the final decision will be taken by the selection committee to ascertain the special circumstances and allow the candidate (s) for an online interview. The Institute reserves the right to conduct the interview in online/offline mode.
