Carl-Zeiss-Humboldt Research Award for Indian to research in Germany

Carl-Zeiss-Humboldt Research Award

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation presents one Carl Zeiss Humboldt Research Award funded by the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung per year to an internationally renowned academic from abroad in recognition of the award winner’s entire previous academic record as well as their extraordinary potential.

Eligible for the award are researchers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines who wish to collaborate with specialist colleagues in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland- Palatinate, or Thuringia. Nominations can be submitted to the Humboldt Research Award programme.

Each award is valued at 100,000 EUR. In addition to this award amount, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation can provide further funding of 50,000 EUR to cover costs arising from the award winner’s collaboration with specialist colleagues in Germany, for example for attending academic conferences, for scientific equipment, for including junior researchers, or for child care. The nomination and selection process for the Carl-Zeiss-Humboldt Research Award is part of the Humboldt Research Award programme. Direct nominations are not possible.

In addition, award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their choice in Germany in close cooperation with specialist colleagues. The project duration of approximately six to twelve months may be divided into several shorter stays.

Nominators must guarantee that the necessary infrastructure for carrying out the requested research projects or lecture tours (e.g., library access, material resources, workspace) is available.

To support the collaboration, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation can provide further funding of up to 50,000 EUR in particular to cover the costs of attending academic conferences, of additional material resources such as specialist literature or scientific equipment, of childcare, or of including junior researchers.

The initiative for conferral of a research award must come from researchers working at institutions in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, or Thuringia. Nominations may also be initiated by award winners of the Humboldt Foundation working abroad, provided that the nomination is made jointly with a researcher working in one of the aforementioned federal states. Furthermore, the relevant regulations on the nomination and selection procedure in the Humboldt Research Award Programme apply. The Carl Zeiss Humboldt Research Award is conferred in conjunction with the conferral of Humboldt Research Awards.
