Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) can trace its origins to the ‘Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry’ established by the French Government in 1823. In 1956 foundation for new medical college was laid and in 1964, hospital was inaugurated. JIPMER became an institution of national importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 2008. It is an institution established for teaching, research and patient care in the area of health.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates to work on the following post(s) on a contract basis in a research project funded by an external agency at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, as per the details below.
Likely duration : SIX MONTHS and the extension may be granted up to TWO YEARS based on the performance with effect from thedate of joining.
Consolidated remuneration : Rs. 37,000/- per month plus 18% HRA (Rs. 5,040/-)= Rs. 43,660/- per month
Project title : "Development of bi-modal transvaginal probe and evaluation of its diagnostic accuracy for a non-invasive AI-based detection of preinvasive cervical lesion in comparison to standard colposcopy in screen positive patients’’

Eligibility criteria (Qualifications and experience)
A. Essential: • Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following:
1. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests - CSIR-UGC NET, including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE.
2. The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, and MoE. ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, USER, NISER etc.
B. Desirable :
• Experience in clinical research, clinical analysis, and biostatistics.
• Image processing and analysis using computer vision libraries such as OpenCV and scikit- image of Python.
• Well versed in building computer vision models for image classification, object detection, segmentation, and image generation.
• Well-versed in developing Machine learning/AI for image analysis, image segmentation, and classification.
• Candidates must be willing to travel from JIPMER, Puducherry to IIITDM, Chennai as part of collaborative research activities.
• Candidates with good publication record in high-impact journals & conferences will be preferred.
• Selected Candidates are expected to join the research program on July 1st 2025
Maximum Age Limit : 28 years (as on last date of receipt of applications) However, can be relaxed for women candidates/OBC/SC/ST/physically handicapped (PH) candidates as per norms
Nature of work/responsibilities and expectations
• Image processing and analysis using the computer vision libraries such as OpenCV and scikit- image of Python.
• Building computer vision models for image classification, object detection, segmentation, and image generation.
• Application of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for performing image processing and identification of suspicious region.
• Performing biostatistics analysis and inferences (like PCA, AUC, and others) from the data gathered through images.
• Writing manuscripts for publications in reputed Journals and Conferences.
Terms and Conditions
1. This position is purely on contract basis for an externally sponsored project, and the person engaged will have no claim to any regular post in JIPMER at any time. Further, the position is only for the duration of the project and based purely on external funding support for the project.
2. The engagement may be extended or curtailed at discretion of the Project Investigator.
3. Qualification and experience should be in a relevant discipline/field and in a reputed institution/organization. The experience should have been gained after acquiring the essential qualification.
4. Qualification, experience, other terms, and conditions may be relaxed/ altered at the discretion of the Principal Investigator.
5. Valid email ID and mobile number are compulsory.
6. Consolidated salary of the post may vary from time to time. No other allowance/facilities other than consolidated salary shall be extended.
7. Submission of wrong or false information at any stage during the process of selection or canvassing of any kind will lead to disqualification or even termination if detected after the person has been engaged.
8. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview. Decision of the Project Investigator will be final. If the number of applications is very large, more stringent criteria than those specified above may be used to determine eligibility.
9. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
10. Incomplete applications and applications that are not in the prescribed format and those not fulfilling the essential criteria above are likely to be summarily rejected. EVALUATION CRITERIA : After the evaluation of the application form, the recruitment process will be as follows:
a. Written test (areas which will be covered) approx. – Analytical, logical reasoning, image processing, python coding, machine learning/artificial intelligence, image classification & segmentation, object detection, biostatistics, clinical research and analysis.
b. Interview (areas which will be covered) – Clinical image analysis, Image processing, machine learning/artificial intelligence, image classification, object detection, image segmentation, clinical research and analysis.
Interviews for the post may be conducted in person or via videoconferencing, at the discretion of the Principal Investigator. In the latter case, it will be the individual candidate’s responsibility to ensure access to a suitable device (computer/ laptop/ mobile) with audio and camera facilities, and an adequate internet connection.
Date and time of Written test followed by interview will be on 24th of July 2025 at 8am, in Skill lab, first floor, WCH building, JIPMER, Puducherry. The Shortlisted Candidates will be interviewed at 11.00 am on the same date.
