G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (formerly known as G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development) was established in 1988-89, during the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, as an autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India, which has been identified as a focal agency to advance scientific knowledge, to evolve integrated management strategies, demonstrate their efficacy for conservation of natural resources, and to ensure environmentally sound development in the entire Indian Himalayan Region (IHR).

Principal Project Associate (01 No)

Essential Qualification : • Doctoral degree in Life Sciences/Natural Sciences with consistently good academic records and

Desirable Qualifications : • Experience of working in remote Mountainous areas/ with rural communities
• Experience of data compilation/analysis and synthesis and proven record of scientific writing.

DBT funded project entitled “Promotion of high value medicinal plants cultivation, post-harvest management and value- addition in the Indian Himalayan Region”.

Desirable Qualifications : • Experience in medicinal plants cultivation and conservation, post harvest management, value chain development, field study for medicinal plants diversity assessment, socio-economic survey and stakeholder consultation in higher Himalayas
• Laboratory based experience in phytochemical analysis, in-vitro propagation protocols using biotechnological tools, and report writing and data analysis
Nature of work / Responsibilities : • Assessment of biochemical and phytochemical of the selected MAP species.
• Promotion of cluster based cultivation of selected medicinal plants
• Establishment of value chain and market linkages.
• Conduct site-specific intervention on medicinal plants cultivation, coordination with the line agencies and farmers.
• Publication of research papers in peer reviewed Journals
Project Assistant (04 Nos.)

• Experience in field-based work related to medicinal plants conservation and cultivation.
• Skills in nursery development, plantation techniques, and post-harvest handling of medicinal plants.

Junior Research Fellow / Junior Project Fellow (01 No.)

Essential Qualification : First Class Master's degree in in Ecological Science/ Forestry/Ecological Economics/Botany/Environment Science
Desirable Qualifications : • Knowledge of RS&GIS
• Highly motivated candidate for pursuing research in geospatial analysis of flora and fauna in the Himalaya.
• Candidate with keen interest in curation and development biodiversity datasets to study biogeography, evolutionary ecology and conservation prioritization of Himalayan biodiversity will be preferred.
Nature of work / Responsibilities :
• All project related work/ activities of scientific/technical/ official nature/ Field tour
• Biodiversity data curation from published literature using AI and ML techniques. Field surveys in different regions of the Indian Himalaya to collect data for creation of a biodiversity database.
