G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (formerly known as G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development) was established in 1988-89, during the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, as an autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India, which has been identified as a focal agency to advance scientific knowledge, to evolve integrated management strategies, demonstrate their efficacy for conservation of natural resources, and to ensure environmentally sound development in the entire Indian Himalayan Region (IHR).

Post : Junior Research Fellow OR Junior Project Fellow

Applications are invited only from Indian citizens for the following purely project based temporary positions under NMHS funded project at Kosi-Katarmal (Almora) campus of the Institute. The candidate with adequate qualification may appear for Walk-In-Interview on 30th July, 2025 (10:00 AM onwards) at GBPNIHE, Kosi – Katarmal, Almora, Uttarakhand. Candidates appearing for Walk-In-Interview (offline mode) must bring all original copies (with xerox copy) of certificates, testimonials, experience etc along with prescribed application form (Refer to Annexure-I). 

NMHS-funded project entitled : “Microbial Assisted Bio / Phytoremediation of Municipal Waste Dump Sites in the Central Himalaya”-reg. 

Salary : Rs 37,000/month + HRA with NET/GATE or Rs 24,000/month + HRA with non NET/GATE

Age : 28 years*
*Relaxation in upper age limit for OBC/SC/ST/ Women/Physically handicapped candidates as per GoI rules.

Place of Posting : Division of Forestry Statistics, ICFRF HQ, ICFRE, FRI Campus, Dehradun


Essential Qualification : 1. First class Master degree in Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Microbial Biotechnology

Desirable Qualifications : (i) Preference will be given to the candidates having 2 years of relevant research experience in Microbial accessions/Phytoremediation/ bioremediation/ Molecular analysis/ degradation of plastic and other complex molecules etc. 
(ii) Proven experience of soil microbiology works 
(iii) Physically fit and willingness to move in tough terrains of Himalaya 
(iii) Strong foundation in analytical/statistical skills (e.g., SPSS, MATLAB, R, etc.)

Nature of work / Responsibilities : 
• Soil microbiological studies related to phytoremediation/ bioremediation and plastic degradation 
• Biochemical & Molecular Analysis of the identified microbes 
• Data acquisition, analyses and interpretation, and participation in field work 
• Conduct intensive research (Field and Lab) 
• Efficient coordination of Project activities 
• Assisting in project monitoring, report writing, synthesis 
• Any other scientific/technical jobs that may be assigned from Nodal/PI/Co-PI time to time


General Instructions
1. 3. Minimum requirements of qualifications and/or experience can be relaxed in respect of exceptionally outstanding candidates. The Institute reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of positions, to fill up or not to fill up any or all the posts or to shortlist and sclect the candidates in any suitable position depending upon the qualification and experience required for the said post.
4. Candidates must bring original documents pertaining to their educational qualifications & experience along with one set of photocopies. The experience will not be considered w ithout an experience certificate.
5. The selected candidate(s) are expected to join immediately.
6. The selected candidate is liable to be posted anywhere in India.
7. No TA/DA shall be paid for attending the Interview.
8. Institute reserve the right to disengage the manpower at any time without assigning any reasons thereof.
9. The engagement is purely temporary in nature.
10. In case of any dispute/ambiguity that may occur in the process of selection, the decision of the Institute in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode of selection, and the conduct of examination/ interview will be final and no query or correspondence will be entertained in this connection from any individual or his/her agency.
