AIIMS Openings for Life science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry candidates

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajkot in Gujarat is one amongst the several new AIIMS, being established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The upgradation of the existing Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (DHR-VRDL) to a Biosafety Level-III (BSL-III) laboratory is being carried out at the Department of Microbiology, AIIMS Rajkot under the flagship Government of India scheme - “Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM)”. This infrastructure development project is funded by the Department of Health Research - Indian Council of Medical Research (DHR-ICMR), aimed at enhancing the nation's core capacity for timely diagnosis and response to infectious disease outbreaks and public health emergencies.

Research Scientist C (Non-Medical)
Emoluments (Norms for Salary) in Rs : 67000+ HRA
Essential Qualifications : Ph.D. in Microbiology / Biochemistry / Biotechnology /Molecular Biology/ Life Science. or
First class master’s degree (M.Sc./M.Tech) in Microbiology/Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Life science with the relevant subjects from a recognized university with 05 years research experience in the relevant subject after 1st class masters degree.
Or
2nd class M.Sc. + Ph.D degree in relevant subject from a recognized university.
Desirable Qualification
i. Ph.D. candidates with research thesis work on infectious diseases supported by at least three original research publication in PUBMED indexed journal will be given preferences.
ii. Any Post -doctoral research / past experience in Viral infectious disease diagnosis, epidemiological studies will be given preference.
iii. Working experience of tissue culture / virus harvesting / cell line maintenance / viral gene expression study/ genetic basis of viral pathogenesis / viral diagnostic genetic marker.
iv. Knowledge of Computer Applications (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Sequence phylogenetic analysis software, Business Intelligence tools, Data Management. Working knowledge of molecular bioinformatic tools like Bio edit, BLAST, Primer and Probe designing, phylogenetic analysis and sequence will be preferred.
Job Description : Real time assessment of any viral outbreak if occur in Gujarat. Ensure the proper sample collection and its transportation by health workers in case of laboratory investigation of any viral outbreak in Gujarat. Ensure timely diagnosis of all viral disease investigation done in the laboratory. Writing of any significant laboratory work for publication in reputed journals. Compilation of laboratory work for half yearly / annual report. Completion of any work assigned by PI and Co-PI in smooth functioning of VRDL.

Research Scientist B (Non-Medical)
Emoluments (Norms for Salary) in Rs : 56000+ HRA
Essential Qualifications : First class Master’s degree in the life sciences from a recognized university. or - Second class M.Sc. + Ph.D. degree in the life sciences from a recognized University
Desirable Qualification
i. Research / training experience in Viral Diagnosis / Infectious disease outbreak diagnosis / field experience of sample collection and transport in viral disease outbreak.
ii. Working experience of tissue culture (virus isolation) / cell line maintenance / viral gene expression study/ genetic basis of viral pathogenesis / viral diagnostic genetic marker.
iii. At least two original research publications (Published/ accepted) in PUBMED indexed journal will be given preferences.

Job Description : Ensure timely diagnosis of all viral disease investigation done in the laboratory. Maintenance of all documentation in terms of inventory / log book / SOP/ raising demand for any equipment / chemical/ plasticware / glassware / kits. Completion of any work assigned by PI and Co-PI in smooth functioning of VRDL

Age Relaxation : This is relaxable for SC/ ST candidate for a maximum period of Five years. In the case of OBC candidates it is relaxable upto maximum period of Three years. In the case of Persons with Disabilities (PwBD) candidates, this is relaxable upto maximum period of Ten years for General category, Thirteen years for OBC category and Fifteen years for SC/ST category candidates.
Duration of employment : 12 months which can be extended further depending upon the candidate’s performance, continuation of scheme and budget grant from the funding agency.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

SERVICE RELATED TERM AND CONDITIONS :
Recruitment on contractual basis on consolidated remuneration for above mentioned posts is
as per the guidelines of DHR. The conditions of employment are:
• All the posts are purely temporary and contractual. The engagement will be as per the DHR- ICMR guidelines. The candidate has no right to claim for regular appointment. Selected candidates will not be eligible for any benefits of the permanent employee.
• Selected candidate(s) so appointed will not be entitled for any other financial/non- financial Benefits / facilities, or any special allowances exccpt fixed consolidated emoluments as per the DHR rules and regulations regarding establishment of VRDL.
• The selected candidates should produce willingness certificate/acceptance certificate for all the terms and conditions issued at the time of appointment and should enter the contractual agreement in this regard.
• If the performance of the candidate is not satisfactory during any part of the tenure, the services of the candidate may be terminated with a notice period of 1 month. In ease the candidate wishes to leave the contract, they may choose to do so with a notice period of 1 month.
• The appointment may be renewed subject to budget grant from the funding agency, satisfactory performance of the candidate.
• The candidate(s) appointed will not be considered as regular employee of AIIMS, Rajkot/Govt of India, and will not be entitled for any service benefits in this regard. Further, the service of candidate will not be considered as a continuous service at the time of applying/appointment of any other post(s) of the Government of India or AIIMS, Rajkot.
• The candidate appointed shall work as per the duty assigned by the PI, VRDL, AIIMS, Rajkot.
• Selected candidates may have to work in shifts/night duty as and when required. Staff may have to go ori field visits and travel outstation for any need under the project.
