National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is the first national level institute in pharmaceutical sciences with a proclaimed objective of becoming a centre of excellence for advanced studies and research in pharmaceutical sciences. The Government of India has declared NIPER as an 'Institute of National Importance'. It is an autonomous body set up under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.

Post : Junior Research Fellow

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for temporary Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position in the projects funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST) –Indo Sri Lanka Joint Research Programme. The position is temporary and the offer will be initially for a period of ONE Year that can be extended further based on the performance and will be co terminus with the project. If the candidate also fulfils the institute criteria, admission in PhD through NIPER entrance may be considered. The requisite qualification & experience etc. for the project are given below.

Project Title : Bioprospecting Endolichenic Fungi from Mangroves in Negombo lagoon in Sri Lanka and Gulf of Khambhat, Gulf of Kutch from Gujarat India.; An Untapped Treasure Trove for Discovery of Special Structures and Bioactive Compounds

Qualification and Experience required
M.Sc./M.S/M.Pharm in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/Life Sciences/ Pharmacognosy /Natural Products Chemistry
• Hands on experience in vitro mammalian cell culture assays
• Lichen collection, identification and fungal culture work
• Extraction, isolation and characterization of Natural Products from biomass

Job Profile
Primary focus of this project:
1. Discovery of novel molecules from endolichenic fungi;
a. Collection of Lichens and isolation of fungi,
b. Selection of extracts based on bioactivity and dereplication techniques,
c. Isolation and characterization of bioactive molecule
2. In-silico screening, in-vitro and in-vivo assay
