Job Description
Function of the Position:
This is a supervisory and hands-on position in which the incumbent is responsible for managing the Cell Biology/Bioassay Laboratory and Staff of USP-India’s Biologics and Biotechnology Division. Oversees daily operation of the laboratory, lead and manage Cell Biology/Bioassay Group to promote good quality Therapeutic products globally.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to ensure that lab adheres to USP’s mission, goals and objectives.
  • Supervise, Manage and Conduct research in Cell Biology areas relevant to public standards
  • Hands-on Bench work: Carry out experimentation where the techniques would include various types of cell based and cell free assays
  • Participate in different collaborative projects, training projects in the area of Cell Biology/Bioassay both at National and International level
  • Review and edit reports from Cell Biology Group
  • Assist in planning, implementing and evaluating laboratory procedures/systems
  • Assist in the USP-MC activities and participate in collaborative RS development works internationally
  • Supervise staff as assigned. Perform supervisory duties such as performance reviews, objective setting, staff development and career counseling
  • Responsible for preparation/review and implementation of SOPs, Protocols, etc.
  • Attend scientific seminars as appropriate
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to continue learning and grow personal capability
  • Pursue, recommend and implement new approaches or processes to improve Group’s operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills
Minimum Requirements:
Ph. D. in Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field with not less than 6-8 years of relevant experience, including demonstrated laboratory experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
A comprehensive understanding of the science involved in the development and validation of biological assays. Broad experience in the analysis of proteins, glycoproteins and monoclonal antibodies, experience in the development and execution of bioassays, familiarity with tissue culture, microbial and immunological tests, and experience with method qualification and validation are required.  Experience with compendial methods a plus.  A basic understanding of the processes of the USP is desired.  Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills are required.  Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to function in a team-oriented environment are necessary.  Takes personal responsibility to ensure work is delivered on time and is the highest possible quality. Experience working in the biotechnology industry strongly preferred.
