Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology Openings under JKSTIC funded Project at IIIM

CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, is a premier Institute working under the aegis of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), an autonomous body under the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Industrial Biotech Park (IBTP), Ghatti, Kathua, established with support from the JKSTIC and operationalized by CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, is a state-of-the-art biotechnology innovation and incubation hub. The Centre fosters research, innovation, technology commercialization, entrepreneurship, and industry-academia collaboration to strengthen the biotechnology ecosystem in the region.

Applications are invited from eligible, qualified and motivated candidates for the following project-based position(s), purely on a temporary basis, under the JKSTIC funded Project No. GAP-3202 entitled “Operationalization of Industrial Biotech Park (IBTP), Kathua, by Establishing the Centre of Excellence at IBTP, Kathua”. The candidates selected for these positions will be posted at IBTP, Kathua.

Position Code : 01
Name and No. of Positions : Chief Executive Officer (CEO) — [01 Position]
Essential Qualification :
i) Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Science/Engineering/Technology/Management with minimum 55% marks; and
ii) 5 years’ experience in Entrepreneurship/Business Development/Bio-product Development/R&D/Industry Outreach/Startups/Tech Transfer/Industry-Academia collaborations.
Desirable Qualification :
i) Experience in managing startups, technology commercialization, and industry–academia collaborations.
ii) Demonstrated leadership in entrepreneurship development, business development, technology transfer, and resource mobilization (government/industry funding).
iii) Excellent communication, networking, and strategic planning skills with a proven ability to build partnerships with industry, academia, investors, and government agencies.

Essential Qualification :
i) Ph.D. in Biological Sciences/Life Sciences/Chemical Sciences; and
ii) 3 years of proven job experience in Bio-product Development R&D/Startup/Entrepreneurship/Industry Experience.
Desirable Qualification :
i) Post-doctoral/industrial experience in biotechnology or allied disciplines.
ii) Experience in industry–academia collaborations, proposal writing, and scientific publications/patents.
iii) Experience in bio-product development, technology commercialization, innovation management, or entrepreneurship.
iv) Knowledge of IPR, patents, regulatory affairs, and project management.

Name and No. of Positions: Scientist – Plant Science/Medicinal Plant Extract Preparation — [01 Position]
Essential Qualification :
i) Ph.D./B.Tech/M.Sc./M.Tech in Biological Sciences/Life Sciences/Plant Sciences with experience in medicinal plant extract preparation and related laboratory techniques; and
ii) 2 years of proven job experience in Bio-product Development R&D/Industry Experience.
Desirable Qualification :
i) Experience in medicinal plant extraction, phytochemical analysis, purification, standardization, and characterization using techniques such as HPLC, HPTLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, or related analytical instruments.
ii) Experience in bio-product development, process optimization, pilot-scale production, quality control (GLP/GMP), and commercialization of herbal, nutraceutical, or phytopharmaceutical products.
iii) Proven record of scientific publications, patents, industry collaborations, and technology transfer in medicinal plants, natural products, or allied areas.

Essential Qualification :
i) Ph.D/ B.Tech / M.Sc / M.Tech in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, Bioprocess Engineering; and
ii) 2 years of proven job experience in Bio-product Development R&D / Industry Experience.
Desirable Qualification :
i) Experience in microbial fermentation, upstream and downstream processing, strain improvement, process optimization, and scale-up from laboratory to pilot-scale bioreactors.
ii) Hands-on experience with bioreactors/fermenters, process monitoring, aseptic operations, and analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, spectrophotometry) for fermentation product analysis and quality control.
iii) Proven record of bio-product development, technology transfer, scientific publications, patents, industry collaborations, or startup/entrepreneurship in industrial biotechnology or fermentation sciences.

Essential Qualification :
i) B.Tech./M.Sc./M.Tech/MBA with minimum 55%; and
ii) 2 years’ experience in Business Management/R&D/Administration/Finance/Entrepreneurship Development/Office Management.
Desirable Qualification :
i) Diploma in management/business development/Administration/Finance.
ii) Candidate needs to have good writing and oral communication skills with computer literacy.

Stipend (per month in ₹) : ₹80,000/-

General Terms, Conditions & Instructions :
1) The maximum tenure of engagement for the selected candidates shall be limited to the duration of the project. However, continuation of engagement will be subject to periodic performance reviews (quarterly/half-yearly) and may be extended or curtailed depending on the project’s duration, requirements, and the performance/conduct of the incumbent(s).
2) Merely applying for the post, appearing for the interview and fulfilling the eligibility criteria does not confer any right upon the candidate for appointment. Further, the Offer of Engagement to the selected candidate(s) shall be issued only after the receipt of the funds under the above project.
3) The tenure of engagement shall be co-terminus with the project. However, under no circumstances shall the total tenure exceed six years, including engagement in all CSIR labs, excluding the period during which the individual was engaged as project personnel while pursuing PhD (i.e., between PhD registration and thesis submission). Performance will be reviewed periodically and unsatisfactory performance may lead to termination without any notice or reason.
4) The position(s) are purely temporary and are on behalf of the sponsor and, therefore, not confer any right on the incumbent(s) to any claim, implicit or explicit, for absorption on any post in CSIR-IIIM/CSIR.
5) Candidates applying for multiple posts are required to submit separate applications for each post. Applications submitted for one post shall not be considered for any other post.
6) Incomplete application forms in any respect shall be liable to rejection. Furthermore, if at any stage it is found that any information has been suppressed or false information has been furnished, the candidature of such candidate shall be liable to cancellation without any further notice or explanation.
7) Candidates will have the option to interact in English/Hindi before the Selection Committee
8) Relaxation in age limit will be given as per Govt. of India Rules. Age will be reckoned as on the last date of application submission.
9) Upon selection/empanelment, the original documents, including eligibility qualification, DOB, caste, and age relaxation certificate, will be verified; if any discrepancy is found, the selection/empanelment shall stand cancelled.
10) The number of positions may vary depending upon the project requirements at the time of Interview.

11) The Director, CSIR-IIIM reserves the right to not to fill any or all advertised positions.

13) Candidates currently engaged in any project at CSIR-IIIM must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before applying for any new vacancy. Applications/ candidature/ selection of such candidates will only be considered if the NOC has been issued by the office.
