Applications are invited from Indian Nationals for the temporary post of Project Assistant to work on the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) Sponsored Research Project under the Early Career Research Grant (ECRG) programme, titled “Integration of metabolic engineering and bioprocess strategies to enhance succinic acid production in Komagataella phaffi” (File No. ANRF/ECRG/2025/003818/ENS) reporting to Dr. Sharon Mano Pappu J, School of Biochemical Engineering, IIT (BHU), Varanasi.

Post : Project Assistant

The project focuses on developing a sustainable bioprocess strategy to enhance the succinic acid production by metabolically engineer the yeast strain Komagataella phaffi. We are looking for motivated candidates from a broad range of backgrounds; the position details are given below

Number of openings : 01 
Duration : Co-terminus with the project (Upto 32 months). Initial appointment for 11 months, extendable based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. 

Monthly Emoluments Rs. 27,000/- + 20% HRA (as per ANRF norms) 

Essential Qualifications : Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Sciences (Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering) / Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology (Biotechnology) from a recognized University or equivalent. 

Desirable Qualifications : Basic knowledge of cloning in yeasts, handling of bioreactors Interest in design of experiments to optimize the process A record of research output (publications, theses, projects) and the ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary team

Age Limit : 28 years as on the last date of application (relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST/Women/PwD candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates, and for candidates with relevant research experience, as per GoI / institute norms). 

Roles & Responsibilities
Contribute to scientific publications, project reports and the opensource simulation toolkit Any other research task assigned by the PI in line with project objectives

Selection Process : Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at IIT (BHU) Varanasi (online or in person). No TA/DA will be paid for the interview. The selection will be based on academic record and interview performance.
