ICGEB-JNU PhD Program 2026 (Admission Announcement)

ICGEB runs state-of-the-art laboratories in Trieste, Italy, New Delhi, India and Cape Town, South Africa and forms an interactive network with almost 70 Member States. It holds a key role in Biotechnology, promoting Research excellence, training, and Technology Transfer to industry, contributing in concrete terms to sustainable global development. Its operations are aligned with those of the United Nations Common System.

The ICGEB-JNU PhD Program 2026 will be conducted in two streams : 1. Human Health & Industrial Biotechnology, and 2. Plant Science, and will be run exclusively at ICGEB New Delhi.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates with Indian nationality, in two streams :
1. Human Health & Industrial Biotechnology (Translational Health, Emory Vaccine Program, Structural Biology, Cellular Immunology, Structural Parasitology, Transcription Regulation, Yeast Biofuel, Systems Biology for Biofuel)
2. Plant Science (Nutritional Improvement of Crops, Plant Transcription Regulation, Metabolic Engineering).

Eligibility
(I) First class M.Sc. (60% or equivalent grade) in any branch of science (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, etc.) or M.Tech. or MBBS or M.V.Sc. or M.Pharm. or 4-year /8 Semester B.Sc (Honours with Research) with 75% marks or 7.5 CGPA or equivalent qualification recognized by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi is required.
(II) Only “Category-I” NET candidates having a valid fellowship through any one of the following examinations: CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT (I), DST-INSPIRE, BINC, or any other equivalent JRF examination that is valid for at least four years are eligible to apply.

Eligible candidates will be called for a written exam and/ or interview on June 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, 2026.
