Admission to Ph.D. Programme at Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing

Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) is an autonomous national institute under the Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India). This futuristic innovation institute of its own kind in the country has a mission of advancing knowledge, leads and emerging technologies/processes relevant to the agri-food sector towards applications and products. It aims to link them with societal benefits through catalysing/promoting entrepreneurial action around bioprocesses, bio-products, and value-addition to bioproducts with special reference to the agri-food sector. Currently, the four major mandated R&D areas in hand at the institute are (A) Value Addition to Primary Processing Residues/ Wastes for Edible Products; (B) Valorisation of Crop Waste for Speciality Products and Chemicals; (C) Nutritionals, nutraceuticals and upgradation of value or use of bioproducts, (D) Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for low volume-high value products and industrial enzymes. 

CIAB invites applications from potential candidates for admission into its Ph.D. program in Chemical and Biological Sciences for the session beginning in August 2024. Candidates with their own fellowship, such as DBT/ICAR/CSIR/UGC-JRF, etc., and with secured funding from the institute/agency are strongly encouraged to apply. The selected candidates will be enrolled in the Ph. D. program of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali, and the Ph. D. degree will be awarded by IISER, Mohali.

Eligibility
• M.Sc. in Chemistry (General / Organic / Inorganic / Physical / Other) or M.Sc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or M.Sc. in Physics or M.Pharm from a recognized University/Institute or M.Sc. in Life Sciences (Biology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Microbiology) or M.E. / M.Tech. (Biotechnology/Bioprocess/Nanotechnology) or M.Sc. Food Science and Technology from a recognized University/Institute. 
• Those appearing in the final year of the Master’s examination and having been conferred fellowship from any of the agencies mentioned above may also be considered. However, if selected, they must provide proof of degree completion (provisional/original) and a Fellowship Award Certificate before joining. 
• Having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding institutes/agencies with secured funding (with a valid score in any national level tests for PhD admission, such as CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR/JEST/JGEEBILS (TIFR/NCBS)/ICMR- JRF/GPAT/NTA) or equivalent. 

Age limit : As per the guidelines of CSIR-UGC and DST.


Process of Engagement
A committee will screen the applications received to shortlist the candidates for interview. A duly constituted committee will interview the eligible applicants through video-conferencing. The committee would recommend the candidates, if found suitable, for consideration by the competent authority for engagement purely on a Fellowship/Stipendiary basis.

• Incomplete applications and applications that are not in proper format may be summarily rejected. 
• The above research opportunities are open only to Indian Nationals.


Important 
• The applications should be submitted in the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the CIAB website ciab.res.in. 
• Completed applications, along with self-attested photocopies of all the relevant educational, experience, and caste (if applicable) certificates, should be sent by email only to ciab922024@gmail.com latest by 22nd April 2024. 
• Please note that no hard copy of the application is required at this stage. 
• All the positions are based at CIAB, Mohali, Punjab, but some work may also be assigned to be carried out at outstations. 
• No TA/DA will be paid to attend the interview. 
• The candidates are advised to go through the CIAB website frequently to learn about recent research and developments. 
• Number of candidates required for PhD admission: 06 (General), 04 (OBC), 03 (SC), 01(ST) and 01 (EWS).
• Relaxation of age for various categories (including female candidates) shall be as per the rules of DST and other Government of India agencies. 
• No selection would be made if no suitable candidate is found in any area. 
• Candidates found eligible after scrutiny of applications shall be required to appear before a Selection Committee through video-conferencing mode. Kindly note that in case there are a substantial number of applicants, the Chief Executive Officer of CIAB reserves the right to devise such criteria as deemed fit to shortlist the candidates for the interview. The decision of the CEO, CIAB shall be final and binding on all in this respect.

Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview through video-conferencing mode.
