POSITION SUMMARY: 
Seeking experienced and highly motivated preclinical scientist that can effectively design, conduct, and analyze studies to support Halozyme products and product candidates.  The Research Scientist 1, is an in vivo/laboratory bench position that will support ongoing research efforts within the Nonclinical Development (NCD) Department. Candidate is expected to work independently and as part of a multiple team conducting cancer biology / immuno-oncology research.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Execute non-clinical in vivo oncology studies to evaluate the efficacy and pharmacologic dose response relationships of drug development candidates in relevant models
• Develop preclinical models, in vivo non-invasive imaging, processing samples, data analysis, assisting with technical reports as well as validating new protocols
• Support ultrasound and/or bioluminescent imaging (incl. image analysis, data generation) for ongoing preclinical studies
• Execute ex vivo immune functional analyses including multi-color FACS
• Design and prepare nonclinical protocols and organize, analyze and interpret study data and prepare nonclinical study reports and summaries as per Halozyme’s established guidelines
• Ensure compliance with company established practices and procedures, including laboratory notebooks, computer files, quality and regulatory guidelines, and safety standards
• Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and provide input/feedback on experimental study design and subsequent data interpretation
• Report and present scientific findings at appropriate scientific venues

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work independently and collaboratively with colleagues to plan, write, and review nonclinical protocols, study reports and summaries, and technical documents
• Ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment and adapt to change
• Flexibility to adjust work schedule to accommodate varying study workloads.
• Other duties as assigned

Candidate Profile
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with at least 12+ years’ bio-pharmaceutical industry experience in biology, physiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, or drug delivery (an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered)
• Oncology drug development and hands-on experience with preclinical tumor models highly desirable
• Experience handling, dosing, observing, and manipulating rodent models required
• Experience with immunocompetent tumor models with the focus on cancer immunotherapy considered a plus
• Experience with immuno-phenotyping and immune cell-based functional assays considered a plus
• Experience with computer methods for data acquisition and analysis desired
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills
• Must be able to work effectively in a team environment with rapid timelines
• Ability to be quickly trained on software programs as needed.
